Letter from the Head of School

Dear Thacher Community,

One of the things I love about baseball's spring training season is the sense of fresh possibilities that fills the air. I have that same feeling about the beginning of a school year, as we finish the first full week of classes at Thacher. From the staff work week to the board retreat to families entering the building, I sense spring-training potential permeating our opening days.

As I enter my fourth year at Thacher, I am thankful for the Montessori dynamics here that feed our hopes for those possibilities: nurturing students' curiosity, building on distinctive gifts that each child brings to learning, and fostering students' ability to work alongside and with each other.

The staff and I are attracted to this calling in part because the work is cyclical. Recently, I shared with staff a note of gratitude from Mike and Maria Connor, expressing their deep appreciation for all Thacher gave to their two daughters and family during their 12 years at the school. All My Life's a Circle at our all-school picnic this Sunday, I will be thinking of the Connors, the class of 2016, and all the other Thacher graduates over the last 44 years.
