The Back-to-School Picnic has been Postponed
The TPA Back-to-School Picnic, originally scheduled for this Sunday, September 11, has been postponed due to the possibility of thunderstorms. The good news is that the picnic will be held on Sunday, September 18, from 12:00-2:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you then!

Additional Driver(s) Form
We require your express permission for anyone other than your child's parents/guardians or designated emergency contacts to pick up your child from Thacher. If you've joined a car pool or have any additional drivers who will be picking up your child, please log in and specify their names on the new Additional Driver page in your parent portal.

You can update the Additional Driver information at any time.  Your child will not be released to anyone who is not listed.


Before and After School Care - online registration coming soon
Next week you will be able to sign up for Before and After School Care through your Parent Portal. We will send an email with instructions when our new online system is ready.

Until then, please email Michelle Saunders (msaunders@thacherschool.org) and copy your child's teacher if you want to register for Before and/or After School Care.


All School Parent Education Overview - 9/15 @ 5:00-6:00 pm
Calling all parents...

Each year, Thacher Montessori School offers a series of activities and workshops to help Thacher parents become more familiar with Montessori philosophy and how that transforms the way their children learn, at school and beyond.
 
Please join us on Thursday, September 15 from 5:00-6:00 pm in the Thacher gymnasium to review the 2016-17 Parent Education activities. This is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and to meet new ones. Head of school Don Grace will highlight the school's Strategic Direction Initiative and education director Michael Bagiackas will outline ways that we invite parents to take greater part of their children's educational experience through direct interaction and deeper understanding.
 
Free childcare will be provided but reservations are required. RSVP for childcare to Michelle Saunders at msaunders@thacherschool.org by Tuesday, Sept. 13.

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening.

2016-17 Thacher Family Directory
Most of our families have given their consent, via the parent portal, to be included in the 2016-17 Thacher Family Directory. Parents who did not check the consent box will not be included in this year's directory. If you want your family to be listed in the directory, please check the box on the Household Update page on the parent portal by Friday, September 16 or call 617-361-2522 x11 for assistance.

Next week, we will send a notice about Thacher's exciting After School Enrichment Programs and directions for registration. The enrichment programs will include: soccer

STEAM Club at Bay State Learning Center - Fridays 3:30-5:00 PM (Ages 7+)
 

Vila McHenry is running a STEAM Makerspace class for kids 7+ on Friday afternoons in Dedham square. It looks like it will be very hands-on, Montessori-friendly fun. Click here for more details.
 

Reading, Looking & Writing: Poetry Workshop 9/24 at Wakefield
 
 

Wakefield's first-ever writer¹s workshop, Reading, Looking & Writing  will focus on poetry-writing with noted poet Gail Mazur.  The Workshop will run from 11:00 am - 3:45 pm. Following the workshop at 4:00 pm, the public is invited to hear Ms. Mazur read poems from her published work.
