Continuing the Obama Administration's commitment to supporting the domestic automobile industry, Secretary Ernest Moniz announced a $55 million funding opportunity that will solicit projects across vehicle technologies like energy storage, electric drive systems, materials, fuels and lubricants and advanced combustion.

Energy Minister Bill Bennett says the government is considering a second expansion of British Columbia's incentive programs for electric car buyers. The $10.6 million Clean Energy Vehicle Program, which includes $5,000 rebates to buy or lease electric vehicles, is due to run out of money in March, but efforts are underway to keep it going, Bennett said.

U.S. consumers used a record of nearly 2.1 billion gallons of biodiesel in 2015, reducing America's carbon emissions by at least 18.2 million metric tons, according to new U.S. EPA data. Industry leaders said the year-end figures demonstrate biodiesel's rising popularity.
