US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced a proposed 10-year, nearly $4-billion investment to accelerate the development and adoption of safe vehicle automation through real-world pilot projects. The pilot programs would test connected vehicle systems in designated corridors throughout the country, and work with industry leaders to ensure a common framework for connected and autonomous vehicles.

Cars, trucks, bikes, and quads all compete in the two-week long, 5,700-mile race, through stunning but remote and arduous terrain. And this year an electric vehicle called the Acciona 100% EcoPowered put in an extremely credible performance.

Westport Innovations Inc. has received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for its dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) and bi-fuel CNG Westport WiNG Power System models of the model-year 2016 Ford 5.0-liter V8 F-150 trucks.

In 2009, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced that the Navy and Marine Corps would get half of their power from non-fossil fuel sources by 2020, and that the Navy would deploy an entire carrier strike group using biofuels by 2016. Wednesday's expected deployment of the Great Green Fleet is the culmination of these past efforts.

At present, the US EPA has set standards for vehicle fuel and economy and emissions that extend through the year 2025. Christopher Grundler, director of the EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, tells Automotive News that automakers are ahead of schedule in complying with the new rules. He goes so far as to call the results of their efforts so far "nothing short of spectacular."

China's biggest offshore oil and gas producer plans to trim output for the first time in more than a decade as it cuts spending to cope with oil's plunge below $30 a barrel. "Higher-cost oil producers, including Chinese explorers, are beginning to hold back output because they cannot beat the super-low crude prices," Tian Miao, a Beijing-based analyst, said.
