Seattle Times, August 13, 2015
Gov. Jay Inslee is asking the director of Ecology to do "everything possible" to come up with a binding cap on greenhouse gas emissions by next summer. After failing to get legislation on his cap-and-trade program, Inslee announced last month he would use his executive authority to develop a cap under the state's Clean Air Act.

Government Fleet, August 12, 2015
The Seattle Police Department has added 90 Ford Police Interceptor Utility patrol vehicles to its fleet in an ongoing initiative to replace less-fuel-efficient Crown Victoria units. The department chose the vehicle because it provides slightly better fuel economy than the Crown Vics and should be significantly more affordable to maintain.

Tesla Motors is expanding its charging station network in the state of Washington, as a recent report published by Tri-City Herald reveals that the electric vehicle (EV) company is constructing a Supercharger station in Kennewick. Tesla Model S owners will be soon able to recharge their vehicles while driving through the Tri-Cities. The Supercharger station will be able to charge eight vehicles at a time.

Biodiesel works as a clean-burning, renewable alternative to petroleum diesel, offering a viable opportunity to diversify the U.S. transportation fuel supply. Biodiesel is also the first and only commercially available fuel to meet the EPA's definition of an Advanced Biofuel.
  
King County, August 18, 2015
For the first time in nearly three decades, King County Metro riders will enjoy completely new state-of-the-art electric trolleys in downtown Seattle and nearby neighborhoods starting August 19. King County Executive Dow Constantine also previewed a prototype battery-powered bus that could become the next era of transit technology.

It's no secret that that sister brands Hyundai and Kia are hard at work on rolling out hybrid models. However, a new source informed Automotive News that the hybrid rollout for the two brands is far more expansive than anyone would have ever imagined. In order to capitalize on as many niches as possible, the brands plan to roll out four hybrids, two plug-in hybrids, and one EV between 2016 and 2018.

Several cities have experimented with electric taxis, but Montreal could soon have one of the largest fleets in operation. A company operating in the Canadian city is undertaking a plan to put 2,000 electric taxis in service by 2019. The company's new owner reportedly plans to invest around $200 million Canadian in electrification and other upgrades to the fleet.

A Los Angeles carsharing program will target low-income neighborhoods. The program will begin with 100 new cars, 80 of them electric. It will also install charging stations to support the carsharing plan, which is funded by a $1.6 million dollar grant from the California Air Resources Board.

As the parade of presidential hopefuls continues at the Iowa State Fair this week, the Iowa Biodiesel Board reminds them just how important is to the state's voters. According to the group's annual independent public opinion research, 76 percent of voters in Iowa widely support expanding the renewable fuel standard to increase biodiesel use in the U.S.

The 2016 Nissan Leaf redesign will bring a first to the electric car: your choice of two different batteries. The standard Leaf will come with the same battery as the 2015 model, featuring an EPA-estimated driving range of 84 miles. Drivers of higher trim levels will enjoy a battery with as much as 25% increased capacity, delivering a driving range of as much as 110 miles.
