As has been said before, the Bible is not an account of humanity's search for God, but God's search for us. Through writings ranging from straightforward to wise to weird, God addresses us with a vision of reality, which claims to be the true vision of how things really are.

If we reject the Biblical Story we must choose some other accounting of things and base our lives on that. In our culture the default story is of a world in which my life, my needs, and my desires, are the center of all things. When I believe this and live accordingly, I experience a deep frustration because I am not, in fact, the center of the universe.

Jesus reveals that Triune God, Father, Son, and Spirit, is both center and circumference of reality, and then he shows us by word and example how to find our place in the Divine Love, in which we are connected to all things in God. When we've finally suffered enough living in default mode, we decide to be led by grace into an apprenticeship to Master Jesus, so that we can learn how to live in the real world, which he calls the Kingdom of God.

On Sunday mornings we soak ourselves in both Old and New Testament writings in order to be formed into a person and a people capable of living in reality.

During the past few years we've used Track One of the Revised Common Lectionary, which gave us continuous Old Testament stories of patriarchs and prophets. Now we are switching to Track Two in which the Old Testament reading is synced more closely with the Gospel of the Day. Both tracks invite us to let Jesus, the Word of God made flesh, teach us reality and our purpose in it.

See you Sunday!
Bill

PS. Thanks to everyone who made this past Sunday such a wonderful experience of community in Christ. A special thanks to the Parish Life Committee, under the leadership of Melissa Thompson and her many helpers who provided the fabulous cookout. It was also great to have the choir and the church school back in action.

Father Above, make each of us a sanctuary for Christ in the world. Direct the works of our hands, the words from our lips, and the prayers that we pray.  Bless our Living Stones campaign that as we give out of our abundance to make improvements to your House, your Spirit will renew us as a community of praise and service, united to one another and to the world you love in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Music Ntotes

We are in the ramping up mode with all of our choirs. Our Parish Choir attended a four hour workshop last Saturday with clinician Jay Lane, who is the Music Director at the Episcopal church in Lincoln, and is also an instructor for the McClosky Institute of Voice, which works on not only enhancing the healthy voice, but also works on helping the troubled voice. We began by recording a choir piece and ended with recording the same choir piece. What happened in between was a series of warm-up exercises, and much attention paid to posture and relaxing the body for improved vocal tone. After all of the attention paid to our bodies, and attaining a greater overall awareness, the second recording showed a marked improvement! It was a great way to start off our choir season, and we have been given much food for thought.

This week's anthem is by British choral composer, Bob Chilcott. Chilcott is a choir favorite, and this version of "Be thou my vision" with Katie LaRochelle as the soloist, and Connie Pawelczak accompanying the choir, is a great centering piece.  Both youth choirs will debut for the season on 9/25.

As you may know, Thursday is choir night at All Saints' and a great community comes and goes throughout the night to make the music that enriches our worship each Sunday. If you are looking for a way to deepen your involvement and faith, consider joining either the Parish or Bell Choirs. Our youth choirs not only learn to love music and singing, but also learn scripture through song.

Thrift Shop Work Party - THIS SATURDAY at 9:30AM

The clock is ticking until our 9/22 rug installation and our 9/28 and 9/29 early take-in of clothing.

The good news is that the insulation and sheetrocking is all done. The bad news is that there is still plenty of work (in a lot of building terms that I don't really understand like "mudding") that needs to be done. And, there is a lot of good, old fashioned dirt that needs to be removed. If you have time to donate on Saturday, we would love to see you. Work gloves and goggles would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.
Maggie Marshall, for the Thrift Shop Board.

You Are Invited!
We will have a celebration luncheon right after the 10:00 service on September 25. We hope you can make it! A presentation and tour will be included in this festive event. Volunteers are needed. If you would like to help, please email Valerie Cowart at taratara76@hotmail.com Thank you!

Greetings!

Looking for a simple but powerful way to serve All Saints' Church without a huge time commitment?  Look no further!  I invite you to join our Greeters team, which consists of 5-7 pairs of greeters who take turns greeting once every 5-7 weeks.

Our job is to stand just inside the Narthex door each Sunday from 9:40-10am, welcoming parishioners and visitors.  Because we greet in pairs, and because we have such faithful alternate greeters, it's very easy to find subs if you end up having a conflict on a particular Sunday.

This vital ministry is very stress-free, and it makes a HUGE difference at ASC, especially for those people who are visiting for the first time.  If this is something you're interested in, please don't hesitate to speak to me or send me an email at kathleen.larochelle23@gmail.com.  We would LOVE to have you join us!

Thank you,
Katie LaRochelle

Need a Name Tag?

If you've never had a name tag before or can't seem to put your hands on your old one, please shoot me an email or sign up in on the clipboard in the Narthex. (It should be on top of the name tag drawers.)

Please print your name as you would like it to appear, along with a request for an icon.  This can be a simple cross or something that represents a favorite ministry or personal hobby. (For example, the choir wears penguins.)

We encourage people of ALL ages, no matter how long you've been at All Saints' Church, to wear a name tag every Sunday.  This helps us get to know one another and encourages chatting.  Thank you for your commitment to this!

Living Stones Campaign FAQs:

I've made a pledge to the Living Stones Campaign, what happens next? Within a month or so you should receive an acknowledgement letter stating the terms of your pledge.

How do I make a payment?  Payments should be made to the "ASC Living Stones Campaign."  They can be mailed to the Church at 10 Billerica Road or dropped in the Sunday Collection.  Green envelopes are available to identify your payment as a Living Stones pledge.  See below for requesting these.

I've pledged an annual payment.  When should it be made?   We ask that you prayerfully consider making your pledge before the snow falls, thus allowing more outside work, like the paving of the parking lot to be done.  Otherwise, pledges need to be received by the church before the end of the calendar year.

Can someone remind me of my upcoming payment? Email reminders can be requested at the email address below.

Why is it important to make regular payments?  The Living Stones Implementation Committee is totally dependent on the forecasting of upcoming funds based on the pledges made.  Using this they are planning upgrades and improvements. If the funds are not available when expected, this will hamper their efforts to seek bids and complete their projects.

The Vestry and our entire congregation salute your generosity to this project.   Thank you for your great kindness.

For envelopes, reminders or for any other questions regarding your pledge, please contact Diane Olbert at livingstones.asc@outlook.com or see her after the services.

Announcement - Budget 2017
Requests for funding
The following is a "new" budgeting procedure implemented by the Finance Committee and sanctioned by the Vestry, in order to get a better "handle" on developing an accurate operating budget and, to best determine the needs of All Saints' Parishioners. Your cooperation in helping us to help you, is greatly appreciated.

If you or your committee has a church "Activity, Program or Event" (i.e. Out-Reach Program-Fundraiser, yard sale etc.) and are looking for funds or need seed money (funds in advance) to start your church project or program for the next fiscal year of 2017, you must first fill out and submit, a "Request for Funding" application.

If you "Oversee" a budgeted line item or items in the All Saints 2017 Budget you must also fill out and submit to the Finance Committee a "Request for Funding" application. This applies to most but not necessarily all line items in the budget.

FORMS: "Request for Funding" forms are available on-line at www.allsaintschelmsford.org, at the back of the church, and in the office during regular office hours. The forms must be either hand delivered, mailed to the church office or E-mailed to -  aschurch@allsaintschelmsford.org and labeled Attention Fin-Com. This form must be received by the close of business Friday September 30th.

NOTE: Any request for funds submitted after the budget has been approved and a "Request for Funding Application" has not been submitted by September 30th, probably will not be funded for the 2017 Fiscal Year.
