This coming Sunday All Saints returns to our fall schedule: worship at 8 AM and 10 AM, with church school at 9:45 AM.

There is a lot going on this fall, but I've highlighted just a few:
  • This Sunday, Parish Life is hosting a welcome back cookout following the 10 AM service. See below if you can bring something.
  • The nursery with Ali Waszak will continue to support our young kids during worship.
  • On Wednesday October 5, a Bible study on the Book of Acts will begin: announcements about the study and how to sign up will be coming soon.
  • Our Forums will begin Sunday, September 18 at 11:25 AM--Harry Taplin and I are planning topics that we hope will inspire us all to a deeper reflection on our life in Christ
  • Living Stones, our capital campaign to address the physical needs of our parish, is throwing a parish-wide celebration luncheon on Sunday, September 25 following the 10 AM service, signaling the end of our successful campaign!
  • Sunday October 2, we invite you to bring your pets to the 10 AM service to receive a blessing as we celebrate Saint Francis and the Care of Creation.
There is much more going on for our choirs, teenagers, bell ringers, pastoral care, along with the outreach of the Thrift Shop, which is being renovated, and Food for Friends providing suppers once a month in Lowell.
So much and more going on, but our central work is as a community of apprentices to Jesus who is teaching us how to share his life in the love and peace of the Triune God.
I look forward to sharing this journey with you this fall.

Peace in Christ,
Bill

Music this Sunday

While trying to keep in alignment with the lessons for the day, also acknowledges that Sunday is the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 bombings in NYC and Washington D.C. Our opening hymn, set to a very familiar tune, was written after 9/11, and is entitled Hymn for World Peace. The Parish Choir returns after their summer hiatus, and will be fresh off of a Saturday choral workshop. Our first Sunday back goal is always to sing something without embarrassing ourselves, since it is usually sung with little or no rehearsal. Last May, I chose two Shaker pieces arranged by Andover composer, Kevin Siegfried. In a 2016 "Choir and Organ" article written by St. Mary's Rockport music director, David Pike, Siegfried states that "Shakers looked upon their daily existence as a spiritual gift to be governed by what has been termedradical gentleness." Siegfried is a preeminent scholar of Shaker music, and says that "Shaker music represents the largest body of spiritual folksong in this country's history, yet most of it is hidden in archives. The early Shakers, seeking separation from the world, avoided all harmony and instrumental accompaniment in their music." Perhaps the most familiar Shaker tune is "Simple Gifts." The choir will be singing Siegfried's arrangements of "Love is little" and "Peace."

Prayer as First Resort

We will meet on Tuesday, September 13th 7:30-8:45 pm in the Blue and Cranberry Rooms for compline celebrating the feast of Holy Cross Day (on its eve).   If you would like to learn more about Prayer as First Resort, please contact Deb Dutton (debdutton@hotmail.com) or Lynne Grillo (lynne@odic.com).

Welcome Back Cookout
Church Cookout
The Welcome back cookout will be held this Sunday, September 11th after the 10 AM service - rain or shine.

The Parish Life Committee will take care of providing and cooking hot dogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers (plus all the fixings).  We'll provide chips and cold drinks too.

We would appreciate donations of salads, sides, and desserts.  Bringing a dish to share is not required but if you feel so moved, please bring something from one of the above three categories.

Please join us as we kick-off the church school year, reconnect with friends and family you may not have seen in a while and enjoy what's left of the beautiful summer weather.
 -- Parish Life Committee

Father Above, make each of us a sanctuary for Christ in the world. Direct the works of our hands, the words from our lips, and the prayers that we pray.  Bless our Living Stones campaign that as we give out of our abundance to make improvements to your House, your Spirit will renew us as a community of praise and service, united to one another and to the world you love in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Thrift Shop Work Party - 9/17 at 9:30AM

Many hands make light work! We hope to finish hanging insulation and sheet-rock that day. There is also a lot of cleaning to do, since there is a film of concrete dust on everything! Our team leaders, Frank Ouellette and Norm Douglas, have finished repointing all of the walls. Many trips to the store for concrete mix were required. Picture here is the sheet-rock in its ready position, and the insulation is in another ready position. Please contact Frank Ouellette or Maggie Marshall if you are able to help that day.

Announcement - Budget 2017
Requests for funding
The following is a "new" budgeting procedure implemented by the Finance Committee and sanctioned by the Vestry, in order to get a better "handle" on developing an accurate operating budget and, to best determine the needs of All Saints Parishioners. Your cooperation in helping us to help you, is greatly appreciated.

If you or your committee has a church "Activity, Program or Event" (i.e. Out-Reach Program-Fundraiser, yard sale etc.) and are looking for funds or need seed money (funds in advance) to start your church project or program for the next fiscal year of 2017, you must first fill out and submit, a "Request for Funding" application.

If you "Oversee" a budgeted line item or items in the All Saints 2017 Budget you must also fill out and submit to the Finance Committee a "Request for Funding" application. This applies to most but not necessarily all line items in the budget.

FORMS: "Request for Funding" forms will soon be available on-line, at the back of the church and in the office during regular office hours. The forms must be either hand delivered, mailed to the church office or E-mailed to - aschurch@allsaintschelmsford.org and labeled Attention Fin-Com. This form must be received by the close of business Friday September 16th.

NOTE: Any request for funds submitted after the budget has been approved and a "Request for Funding Application" has not been submitted by September 16th, probably will not be funded for the 2017 Fiscal Year.

The New Program Year
is upon us and I would encourage all leaders and groups to submit space reservation requests for your meetings and events for 2016-2017. You may go to our web site at allsaintschelmsford.org and fill out a space reservation request that will automatically come to my email address.  Requests have already started coming in, so please don't assume that last year's time and space are available.  All requests should go through the church office.

Parish Administrator
