Music Notes
The music we are singing this Sunday are classics found at pretty much every Cursillo weekend.  I had the privilege of being the Music Minister at a Cursillo retreat this past May, and the six songs we are sharing at the Sunday Service were all taken from the 50 or so songs we sang over the three-day weekend.  Paige Flick and Edie Parekh were also on the Cursillo weekend, so if this music appeals to you, and you are wondering how Paige and Edie enjoyed the three day journey, then do ask them about it.  I think I've already made clear how important Cursillo weekends are to me, and there are more than 15 other Cursillistas at All Saints' who will tell you the same.

AUGUST is a Mysterious Month
at All Saints' 9:30am Service....
The SUMMER MYSTERY CLUB has begun!

mystery club The Summer Mystery Club is a fun program for all kids at the 9:30am service- everyone is invited.
The kids join Brian and me to work with a Detective from ACME Detective Agency to follow clues and solve a mystery. Each week we catch the kids up on what has happened before, so it is no problem if they can't be here for all 4 Sundays. The mystery club meets right before the start of the 9:30am service and runs during the normal church school time. We will be meeting August 21st & 28th.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the Mystery Club- I can be reached by email at laura.marshall@comcast.net

Please RSVP with the names and ages of your children and the Sundays you think you might be there. Thank you!

Musical Musings
In previous weeks, I have given some reasons to consider joining a church choir. Today, I will excerpt heavily from a 9/23/14 article by Jonathan Aigner that was included in a "Ponder Anew" blog. His article is entitled "9 Reasons to Keep the Church Choir Alive" and represents a lot of what we try to accomplish at All Saints'. Six of his reasons seem most relevant.

1) Choirs support good congregational singing. ... A choir demonstrates that the voice of the congregation is primary, not secondary.

2) Their visual presence is an encouragement to the congregation. ... We are there to be together, to worship God with each other, to be community.

3) Choirs make a broader repertoire available for a worship service.

4) They can offer more difficult and complex music than is possible for the greater congregation. Besides leading in times of corporate singing, since choirs have the benefit of outside rehearsal time, they can offer up musical praises on behalf of the congregation that would otherwise not be possible. In this sense, a choir can be a preaching and praying group, proclaiming God's self-revelation, to which the congregation can listen, meditate, and respond worshipfully in their hearts.

5) Choirs help singers develop and improve their musical gifts. Christians are a singing people. ... Giving children opportunities for choral education in the local church setting further primes congregations to be accepting and supportive of choral music.

6) Participation in choir ministry can be an avenue for introducing outsiders to the church and the Christian faith. I've known many, many people who have come into a church by way of a choral ensemble, have heard the gospel, and have responded with committing their life to Christ. Or, as was the case in my life, choirs can help keep people connected to the faith. I was all but ready to leave the organized church as a teenager, but a move to a new congregation and finding love and acceptance in the choir loft kept me engaged, and ultimately set the stage for me to recognize my calling into vocational church work.

Also important to keep in mind is that in striving to accomplish all of the above, we manage to have FUN in the process! The choirs are open and accepting groups, and new members are always welcome. Please speak to me at any time if you want to know more. The door is always open.

Parish Life Committee Members

Father Above, make each of us a sanctuary for Christ in the world. Direct the works of our hands, the words from our lips, and the prayers that we pray.  Bless our Living Stones campaign that as we give out of our abundance to make improvements to your House, your Spirit will renew us as a community of praise and service, united to one another and to the world you love in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Announcement - Budget 2017
Requests for Funding

The following is a "new" budgeting procedure implemented by the Finance Committee and sanctioned by the Vestry, in order to get a better "handle" on developing an accurate operating budget and, to best determine the needs of All Saints Parishioners. Your cooperation in helping us to help you, is greatly appreciated.

If you or your committee has a church "Activity, Program or Event" (i.e. Out-Reach Program-Fundraiser, yard sale etc.) and are looking for funds or need seed money (funds in advance) to start your church project or program for the next fiscal year of 2017, you must first fill out and submit, a "Request for Funding" application.

If you "Oversee" a budgeted line item or items in the All Saints 2017 Budget you must also fill out and submit to the Finance Committee a "Request for Funding" application. This applies to most but not necessarily all line items in the budget.

FORMS: "Request for Funding" forms will soon be available on-line, at the back of the church and in the office during regular office hours. The forms must be either hand delivered, mailed to the church office or E-mailed to - aschurch@allsaintschelmsford.org and labeled Attention Fin-Com. This form must be received by the close of business Friday September 16th.

NOTE: Any request for funds submitted after the budget has been approved and a "Request for Funding Application" has not been submitted by September 16th, probably will not be funded for the 2017 Fiscal Year.

The New Program Year
is almost upon us and I would encourage all leaders and groups to submit space reservation requests for your meetings and events for 2016-2017. You may go to our web site at allsaintschelmsford.org and fill out a space reservation request that will automatically come to my email address.

Requests have already started coming in, so please don't assume that last year's time and space are available.  All requests should go through the church office.

Here's to another busy and successful year.

Parish Administrator

Thrift ShopThe Little Thrift ShopThat Could!

Our own All Saints' Thrift Shop has been chugging along steadily since the late 1950's, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers. We are a clothing consignment store that raises funds to support the church and community projects.

We will re-open on October 1, after an amazing renovation and update. The Thrift Shop is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10am - 3pm.

Do you have 2.5 hours/month to keep this important institution and community resource on the right track? Do you think you can, think you can, think you can join us? Most needed are Saturday volunteers and substitutes. If so, contact Maggie Marshall, maggie@ccc.com, for your ticket aboard this worthwhile and enjoyable venture.
