Musical Notes Music Staff
Music for Sunday includes familiar hymns and the Parish Choir's swan song, "How can I keep from singing?" by Vermont composer Gwyneth Walker (1947-). This familiar hymn is cited as a Quaker or Shaker hymn, but was originally written by a Baptist minister in the mid 1800's. There are many recordings of this hymn, including performances by Enya, Judy Collins, Pete Seeger, and Arlo Guthrie.

The opening voluntary is by JS Bach and is the first movement of his G major organ concerto, which is actually a transcription of a concerto for violin, strings, and continuo. The closing voluntary is by Spanish composer Antonio Soler (1729-1783).

I will be at the annual conference of the Association of Anglican Musicians this coming week. It is a week of total immersion into wonderful liturgy and song, and this year's conference commemorates the 50th anniversary of the organization. This year's conference is Stamford based, but will include churches throughout the area.
Youth Led Service this Sunday, June 12th at 10AM
In honor of the last day of church school this Sunday, the youth and children of All Saints' will be leading the 10AM service.  It will still follow our standard Sunday format but will feature our youth as greeters, ushers, and readers.  Our graduating seniors will be offering a reflection on what All Saints' has meant to them throughout their formative years.  It will be a wonderful, special celebration!  Don't forget to join us for fellowship in the parish hall after the 10AM service for our delicious Strawberry Shortcake Festival!

Summer Musicians Wanted

Summer musicians wanted to sing or play at the 9:30 Sunday services, beginning June 26. Our Parish Choir will sing on June 12, and then takes a much deserved break until after Labor Day. Please contact Maggie Marshall if you are interested in sharing your time and talent.

Church School Newsletter

Our Church School Newsletter has moved from a monthly format to a seasonal event!  Below is the link for our Spring/Summer edition.  As always, it is packed with news from our classroom teachers, reminders on upcoming events, and celebrations as we approach the end of the church school year. Be on the lookout for our fall edition in early September.  Enjoy!

Prayer as First Resort

will meet on Tuesday, June 14th from 7:30-8:45pm in the Blue and Cranberry Rooms.   If you would like to learn more about Prayer as First Resort, please contact Deb Dutton (debdutton@hotmail.com) or Lynne Grillo (lynne@odic.com).
Financial Committee meeting

On Sunday July 24th there will be an informational meeting at 11:30 after coffee hour on re-establishing All Saints "Financial Committee"- (AKA Fin-Com). Individuals interested in joining this committee as a member or possible alternate are invited to attend.
This will be an informational meeting only. Attendance does not commit anyone to being a part of the committee. We will be discussing the functions and duties of the committee, and discerning existing talents/skills and interest levels. No special experience or education is required; team players and those with a strong desire to help All Saints function more efficiently are welcome!
This committee will be responsible for assisting with development of All Saints' yearly operating budget, and possible other projects including outreach, ministry work, endowment etc. Please remember, attendance does not commit you to anything, so please save the date. If you have any questions, please email Bob Camacho, Camachorf@msn.com.

All Saint's Fourth of July Fried Dough!

Yes, the 4th of July is just around the corner and the fried dough booth plans are underway! We need help setting up the booth on Sunday (the 3rd) in the afternoon, and people to work the booth on Sunday and Monday. Please let Madeline or Beth Anderson-Balmer know your availability during the coffee hour, or at one of the Email addresses listed below. Gonna be away on the 4th? That's okay. There's other ways to help! We're "selling" shares in cases of fried dough, and taking donations of bottled water and soda. This will cut down on the overall cost of the booth! Cases of bottled water or canned soda can be dropped off over the next few weeks. "Fried Dough Share" will be available for $25. Make checks payable to All Saint's Church and mark "fried dough" in the memo area, or give cash to Beth or Madeline! We'll mark your name on our flag! Limited shares are available. We'll be providing more information as the date approaches.

Food for Friends
For, I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. Truly, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you did it to me.
Matthew 25:35

In 1995, inspired by this Bible passage, Rose Bronk and her husband Walter started St. Paul's Soup Kitchen at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lowell, providing meals for the working poor, elderly, and families in the community. They began serving dinner one night a week, and now there are 16 different congregations and other groups serving meals five nights a week.

All Saints' Church has been active in this service since 2000, serving on the 2nd Wednesday of every month.  We have 4 very dedicated teams who serve 100+ people three times a year.  Teams meet at ASC at 2:00 pm on their designated day and car pool to Elliot Presbyterian in Lowell, where the kitchen is hosted.   Meals are served at 5:00 pm.

This is a very vital ministry, and has helped us, as volunteers, grow closer to Christ in our service; as we feed our friends, we are also fed spiritually.  We are reminded that the small things we do for those in need matter.  As Esther Davenport (who has been an active and dedicated leader in this service since the beginning) noted, "It is a small thing that I do. Some would say it is only applying a band aid to a larger problem. I would agree, but I would also say, that if that is all I am capable of doing, that is what I will do. The warm smiles and thanks and 'God Bless You's' that we get each time are more than enough reward."

We hope you will prayerfully consider supporting this ministry - specifically in one of three ways:
  1. Because of the rising cost of food, we could very much use some financial support.  Donations of any amount are welcome. You can leave your donation in the offering marked "St. Paul's Soup Kitchen contribution" and/or leave your spare change in the "Penny basket" marked for this purpose in the Narthex.
  2. We welcome people who would like to help prepare and/or serve food; subs are especially welcome if you cannot make a 3x per year commitment.  Email Linda Masiello  (lmasiello12@gmail.com) or Deb Dutton (debdutton@hotmail.com) if you can help.
  3. We are also looking for a person (or persons) who could represent ASC at the monthly St.  Paul's Kitchen board meetings in Lowell. The meetings take place on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. This position could be shared. Contact Linda or Deb if you could help in this regard.
Thank you very much for your support of this important ministry.
Linda & Deb
Father Above, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the many memories of childhood laughter, gentle nurturing, and faith formation at All Saints'.  We give thanks for the generations that have gone before and for the renovations that will restore our lower classrooms and the bathrooms to be clean, safe, and inviting spaces through the Living Stones campaign.  Father, may our efforts in ministry to Your children bring honor to you and fulfill your vision for our parish, through Jesus Christ who called the children to Him and who with the Holy Spirit embraces us with your unconditional love.  Amen
