Musical Notes Music Staff

Sunday's music returns to just us plain folk. It was a joy to have our music enriched by our Wolverhampton guests! The opening voluntary is Aria, by American composer Paul Manz (1919-2009). His most famous choral work is a choir favorite - the Advent piece, E'en so, Lord Jesus, quickly come." The closing voluntary is from the Neumeister Collection, which contains 31 chorale preludes by Bach that were uncatalogued until scholars rediscovered the manuscript in the 1980's. The choir's anthem is an old chestnut by 16th century English composer Richard Farrant: Hide not Thou Thy face.

Farewell to our British friends!

As you read this, our Wolverhampton guests will be getting ready to depart. It has been a wonderful week full of music, making new friends, and making memories. It takes a HUGE VILLAGE to make this happen, and I am grateful to all who have supported our fifth British invasion. I am most grateful to all of the wonderful host families who opened their homes and hearts and took a giant leap of faith in doing so. I thank all who contributed money to help make this visit special.  Thursday afternoon will be a time of many emotions, but our lives will have been made richer from this experience.

Thank you, all.

All Saints' Lenten Study Group

Join us this Lenten season in reading and discussing the book, Telling Secrets by Frederick Buechner. We will be meeting on four consecutive Wednesday evenings, February 24-March 16, from 6:30-8:00 pm. Plan to enjoy light refreshments for the first half-hour and we'll begin our group discussion at 7:00 pm.

Lent is a time of self-examination and reflection - on our own lives and the life of Jesus and how He is working in us. Buechner's profound and inspirational memoir will stir us to consider our own un-told stories and to recognize God's grace in all that we experience. From the Telling Secrets Introduction: "I suspect that it is by entering that deep place inside us where our secrets are kept that we come perhaps closer than we do anywhere else to the One who, whether we realize it or not, is of all our secrets the most telling and the most precious we have to tell." - Frederick Buechner
