The My Plate Food Guide, found on ChooseMyPlate.gov is a simple way to ensure you are getting all of the nutrients you need from each food group. When making choices, please consider these tips:
Make at least half your grains whole: When choosing grains (like pasta, bread, rice, oatmeal and others), focus on whole grains rather than enriched grains.
Vary your veggies: Vegetables come in all different sizes, shapes, colors, and tastes. To get the most out of your veggies, try to eat different colored vegetables like dark green, red, orange, yellow, white and more.
Focus on Fruits: Fruits are not only great for you, but they are great tasting too. Instead of ice cream or cake, opt for something naturally sweet like strawberries, plums, blueberries, apples, bananas and so much more.
Eat calcium-rich foods: Consuming the lower fat options for milk, yogurt, and cheese will provide the calcium your body needs without the extra calories.
Choose lean proteins: When choosing proteins, try to select lean proteins like fish, chicken, eggs and nuts. Beans are especially great because they are part of both the protein and vegetable group.

FOR GLOBAL GOOD - YMCA WORLD SERVICE
| |
The mission and reach of the YMCA goes far beyond our Fox Cities' community. The YMCA is one of the largest social service organizations in the world, and has a presence in 119 countries - often existing in challenging social, economic and political environments. Y programming is uniquely developed to have the most impact in each community is serves and gives men, women, and children the tools and resources to create a better future for themselves and their families.
As the YMCA of the Fox Cities family, we strive to provide opportunities for others around the world and further the YMCA movement. Here are a few ways we provide impact through our World Service efforts.
-
Mexico City YMCA -Camohmila School: We provide funding so students not only receive an education, but room & board, medical & dental care and support counseling during the school week.
-
International Camp Counselors - Camp Nan A Bo Sho: We give two international college students an opportunity to work at camp for the summer. In turn they provide meaningful cultural experiences and learning opportunities for young campers in northeast Wisconsin.
-
Sioux/Lakota YMCA: This tribal YMCA is in our country, but faces some of the greatest challenges to serve their community. Our support provides after school programs, summer camp, computer classes, and summer lunch programs impact young Lakota students on South Dakota tribal reservations.
Each year we have the opportunity to celebrate our global relationships with our supportive donors and Y family at the Fox Cities World Service Luncheon on Monday, July 13th, at the Appleton YMCA. To learn more, or if you would like to support our efforts please join us for this luncheon by contacting Tom Wendt at twendt@ymcafoxcities.org or 920.954-7619
I encourage you to learn more about the global family you are part of by visiting www.ymca.net/world-service. |

The program is called Employee Self-Serve or ESS. If you have not already done so, please "CLICK HERE" to follow the instruction sheet to help get you set up and access the ESS system.
