Greetings!
The weeks that follow Easter are always a wonderful celebration of the Resurrection power of Jesus Christ. By that same power, God is still transforming the lives of people bound by life-controlling problems with drugs, alcohol or crime and victims of prostitution, human trafficking and sexual slavery.
Thank you for standing with us.
This month we share exciting reports of evangelism taking place through Teen Challenge around the world and a powerful message from Dr Nance.

Challenges Facing Emerging Leaders
 |
Jerry Nance
|
By Jerry Nance PhD, President, Global Teen Challenge
One of my favorite parts of leading is the opportunity to speak into the lives of young leaders and potential leaders. I was just in Branson, Missouri and had the chance to sit with several of the students in the Emerging Leaders Program, share my heart and let them ask questions. As I looked into their eyes, I saw a group of eager learners, perhaps unaware of problems they will face if they accept the challenge of becoming a leader. Joseph is a great example for us as he faced many challenges in his journey toward becoming a great leader. Genesis 39-41 describes the events that affected the life of Joseph: Note his early childhood experiences: * Brother's rejection & hurt * Clothes ripped off of him * Thrown into a pit to die * Sold into slavery * Taken to a foreign country * Bought by Potiphar Do you think Joseph had a difficult time believing God was with him in the midst of all these negative things in his life? It seems that pain is part of the process to become an emerging leader. 1. Joseph's gifts emerged in spite of his situation. He was a servant in the house of Potiphar. He had no personal freedom, no family near, no home, no one to depend on. He was alone. Yet, we know he must have been an exceptional worker. Why? Because His master saw that, the Lord was with Joseph. * The Lord gave him success in everything he did * Joseph found favor in Potiphar's eyes & became his personal attendant 2. Joseph grew in his responsibilities Joseph was put in charge of the household. He was entrusted with the task of caring for everything his master owned. The Lord blessed the household because of Joseph. Think about it. A foreign slave put in charge of the entire estate of Potiphar. Did you ever wonder who was in charge before Joseph? His diligence enabled him to take on more responsibilities. 3. Joseph emerged as a leader Potiphar did not concern himself with anything, except for the food he ate. He didn't worry about his household when Joseph was in charge. What did the blessing of God look like in this house? What was it in Joseph's character that created this level of trust? The Challenges of an Emerging Leader 1. The challenge of difficult situations It wasn't long until Potiphar's wife created a major complication for Joseph. She tried to get him to come to bed with her (v. 10). His character and his integrity were at risk. This was a critical test. Joseph refused her advances and said, "How could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?" He named it for what it was, SIN against God Here are some lessons we can learn from Joseph: * He earned the trust of his master. * He was given authority to make decisions in the place of his master. * He knew his place in the line of authority. * He passed the test and ran out of the house, away from the temptation. * He did not sin. 2. The challenge of false accusations & unfair treatment Joseph was falsely accused and imprisoned. You will have people see your favor, growth in responsibilities and then falsely accuse you. Potiphar's wife tempted Joseph day after day. The enemy of your soul will do the same. Respond like Joseph did and run out of the house. Put distance between you and the sin. Although Joseph did the right thing by fleeing from the temptation, he was put into prison. In the face of doing right, he experienced more pain. 3. The challenge of the test of time The time that it takes to mature as an emerging leader is your friend, not an enemy. It is another opportunity for growth in spite of the situation. In Genesis 39:20-22 it states that while Joseph was in prison the Lord was with him. The Lord showed him kindness and granted him favor with the warden who then put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison. Joseph was once again in a position of responsibility. Remember that the location doesn't matter. God will use you wherever you are. Click here to Read Entire Article. Jerry Nance

EVANGELISM: The Heart of Teen Challenge
David Wilkerson received a command from the Lord as he prayed over a picture of young men on trial for their lives in LIFE magazine, "Go help those boys." In obedience, he went
 | Bernie Gillott |
to the streets of New York City to reach the lost. He founded, "Teenage Evangelism." Even as the name of the ministry evolved to Teen Challenge, the heart of evangelism has remained the focus of the mission. Outreach is not just part of Teen Challenge, the Great Commission is the program. The declaration of the change God has made in the lives of students is as powerful in their development as disciples as the lives they touch in outreach. We cannot share the scope of evangelism taking place through Teen Challenge in the short space available. We offer for your consideration, just a few snapshots. From a major crusade in Haiti, to mission teams, schools, a faithful worker who has gone home to be with the Lord, and a single tuc tuc driver; take a peek with us around the world.
In January, leaders from around the world convened at the Global Teen Challenge World Headquarters in Columbus, Georgia to wait on God and seek Him for fresh oil and fresh fire. One goal was to prayerfully examine and refine the Global Teen Challenge mission statement. Seeing the needs of hundreds of millions of drug addicts, victims of human trafficking and sexual slavery, as well as those battling HIV around the world, the Father
spoke to us a fresh BHAV (big, holy, audacious vision). The mission statement:
To place hope within reach of every addict in the world.
With almost 1200 centers and outreaches in 94 countries, housing 25,000 residential-care beds, that still seems an impossible task, but with God all things are possible. Over 2,000 years ago 12 men under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, without the benefit of cell phones, TV, newspapers, or social media, answered the call to go into all the world. They changed the course of human history in the power of God. Facing political oppression, religious bondage and a veritable pantheon of false gods, they took the call to boldly go and boldly went. May we walk worthy of that call to change the world. We are prepared to stand up, step up, look up, and reach out. Join us...we are WHEELS UP for MIRACLES!

TC-Mid America leads the way in Nigeria
Wayne Soemo, Program Director of Teen Challenge Mid-America, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, led a team of students to Jos, Nigeria in March, 2013. Nigeria is one-third larger than Texas. With a population over 152 million, it is the most populous country in Africa. Situated on the Gulf of Guinea, it is critical to the TC Continent strategy for West Africa.
 | Wayne Soemo, Program Director of Teen Challenge Mid-America |
As Nigeria is increasingly impacted by religiously motivated, terrorism, crime, and socioeconomic unrest, the new Nigeria Teen Challenge is poised to impact Nigeria at the "living edge" to minister truth, light, and hope in a community shrouded in darkness, religious oppression, and violence.

Students minister on the street
|
Teen Challenge Mid- America has a tremendous heart for evangelism and has partnered helping to pioneer Teen Challenge centers around the world. In Africa, they worked on the street, in schools, and the community to help program director David Omih to move forward with the launch of the Teen Challenge center in Jos, an area where Christian churches were bombed, and over 32 killed between Christmas and New Year. The new TC Center in Jos is on the contested border of the Muslim and Christian community where they truly stand as a light for the gospel to meet the needs of those in bondage across cultural and religious boundarie

Remembering a Faithful Brother
Poland Teen Challenge emerged out of a failed communist system with a powerful gospel message. Evangelism has always been at the heart of the ministry of Poland Teen Challenge. While on this earth names like David Wilkerson and Nicky Cruz have garnered the headlines, in heaven there will be a special corner of rejoicing for men like Richard who pioneered the coffee house ministry of Poland Teen Challenge alongside Zbigniew Urbaniak.
Richard Paciocha, a wonderful servant of God died September 13, 2012. On a Monday evening, he lost consciousness on the street and the ambulance took him to the hospital. He left a wife and 3 small children, two daughters Hanna, Katarzyna and a son Stanislaw. He was responsible for the coffee house ministry in Poland, pioneering evangelism and by God's grace extended into over 33 cites. In 2012, he was also helping start coffee houses in the Ukraine and Lithuania. Today, the empty place at the table at Teen Challenge his departing leaves seems impossible to fill up, but God is faithful. God will raise up a voice, and the gospel will continue to go forth in Poland.

Schools in Cape Town South Africa
Emerging from racial violence, apartheid and gang warfare, in Cape Town, South Africa, Jacobus Nomdoe and the team of students of Teen Challenge Western Cape have emerged as the premier school intervention resource for secular schools. TC has ministered to over 15,000 children in the Western Cape over the last 4 months. They are overwhelmed by requests from schools to implement the program.
As a result of successful programs in schools and good reports from head-masters, TC Western Cape received an invitation from the chairperson over the standing committee of Education in the National Parliament to visit parliament and to address the select committee. They were also invited by the Parliamentarian in the Eastern Cape to assist in combatting the current gang and drug problems.
Beginning with STARS, they evolved to "Kids Quest & the Tiger" and now are preparing to roll out their own prevention for the opening of the African School year. We are all excited to see them doing evangelism at the cutting edge in secular schools in South Africa.

Miracle in a Tuk Tuk
It was Sna! 4 years later!
Jim & Kathie Lowans, Asia Pacific Regional Representatives of Global TC, met Sna in 2009. He works 16 hours every day driving a tuk tuk to shield his family from the harsh realities of the streets of Phnom Penh. Day to day, moment to moment, he struggles to feed his wife and 6 children. He drove Jim & Kathie Lowans as they ministered in Cambodia. As he drove them each day, they opened their hearts to him.
When it was time for Jim's Sunday service, Kathie invited Sna to the service.
"I cannot take the time from work", Sna confided, eyes averted as he looked to the ground, "I must feed my family."
"How much do you make on a Sunday morning?" Jim asked? "I will pay your Sunday morning fares if you will come to the service with us." Jim pressed the several dollars into Sna's hand.
"What will I wear?" Sna asked.
"You are fine," Jim smiled. "As Christians we come to God just as we are." They headed for the tuk tuk to go to the service. Instead of just dropping them off, Sna followed them into the church. He slipped into the back pew, watching intently as the service began.
At the end of the service when Jim asked if anyone wanted to commit their lives to Jesus Christ, the first hand raised was Sna. He came to the altar and surrendered his whole life to Jesus Christ. He knelt at the altar with tears streaming down his cheeks and God touched his life.
At the end of the altar call, Jim connected him to the church. He took him to the book store and purchased a Bible for him. Sna caressed the cover of his brand new Khmer translation of the word of God like it was a treasure chest. Jim and Kathie prayed with him again and continued their mission across the Teen Challenge Asia Pacific Region. That was the last time they saw him.
For the next several years, each time they returned to Cambodia, Jim and Kathie searched for Sna. This year, Jim and Kathie resumed their search when they visited Cambodia. About to give up, out of the tens of thousands of tuk tuk drivers that line the streets of Phnom Penh, miraculously they got in a "random" tuk tuk with a driver who knew Sna. He took his cell phone and called him. They set a time to meet.
After catching up, praying, and fellowshipping, Sna took Kathie out to his tuk tuk. Taking hold of the drivers seat and leaning it forward, he pulled out a worn, well-used Bible. It was the same one they had bought for him years before.
"I read it every day," he shared.
It is such a blessing to see how a simple act of kindness can continue to bear fruit. Please pray for Sna, his wife and his six children, (the oldest is 13). May he continue to be the best tuk tuk driver in Phnom Penh and a light for the gospel to every fare. |
