Engineering Services Sought for Flood Protection Project
Columbia County and SEDA-COG are currently soliciting proposals for engineering services for the Bloomsburg flood protection project. The RFP (Request for Proposal) has been posted on SEDA-COG's web site and several engineering firms have already expressed interest.
The firm that is chosen will be responsible for designing the flood protection systems at both Autoneum and Windsor Foods. They will also be responsible for detailed hydraulic analyses, which will provide definitive information regarding community impacts of the project. In the unlikely event that increased flooding is indicated, steps will be taken to identify and address this issue. SEDA-COG's Glenda Ruch, project coordinator, said, "We must evaluate any and all impacts of these two projects, and address those impacts before we are permitted to build the project."
Engineering services will also include specific cost proposals for the flood protection project, which is currently estimated at $30 million.
"We hope to have the engineer selected in May or June," said Mrs. Ruch, "Based on the aggressive schedule we've established for the project, planning and design of the project should allow us to seek construction bids in 2014.
