 Microsoft Office 2013 New Features

Office 2013 boasts a refreshed design, heavily inspired from the Metro User Interface and optimized mainly for touch-based gestures. The software has been mainly designed to work in concert with a vast array of services that Microsoft acquired in recent months example, Skype.

Skype, the popular video chatting service is now built into Office 2013 and therefore a part of the suite. The service will be offering a user 60 minutes of Skype world minutes every month, after he signs up for a subscription to Office (Office 365 Home Premium version). Yammer - a private social network for businesses, recently purchased by Microsoft will also function in conjunction with SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics.

Office 2013 offers new subscription services and is available as a cloud-based subscription service.

Rather than storing documents on computer, users will get the option to share them online with their Facebook friends. Microsoft Word will unify with social networking services such as Facebook and Flickr. The unification will make it easier for them to pull their favorite pictures straight from the sites and insert them into a doc, instead of having them to download manually on their computer. A feature called Resume Reading will also be seen in Word as well as PowerPoint. It will allow the app users pick up exactly where they last left off and resume reading or editing.

It will also be possible to view videos from popular video-sharing website such as YouTube, live, in Word documents. A simple click on a YouTube video inserted into your document will hide the rest of the screen and play the video. Clicking outside of the video player will stop playback and take you back to the document for editing.

Microsoft Excel 2013

Excel 2013 will perform the same old operations of presenting data and creating charts, but in more intuitive way. It will feature more advanced calculations with the integration of Arabic numerals.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2013

PowerPoint will feature improved templates and transition effects. It will include an auto-bookmarking feature too. Besides, the new chart engine access feature will let PowerPoint users pick charts from Excel 2013 worksheets and insert them as slides in their PowerPoint presentations.

Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 Outlook

Better management and less crowded navigation will be the main highlights of Microsoft Office Outlook 2013. For users' convenience, Microsoft has added 'Inline replies' features that will help them reply to emails in a single click. Moreover, a Weather Bar feature has also been added to Outlook 2013 for allowing users to check the weather before scheduling or accepting invites for new meetings.

Apart from this, Office 2013's automatic integration with SkyDrive will allow Office users to sync their files in cloud using their Microsoft accounts and update documents, presentations and spreadsheets

automatically. This will ensure that users access the most recent version of any file, no matter on what device they are.

The ribbon user interface too has undergone a makeover and now includes more space between icons to ease touch control.

Microsoft is also planning to come up with fanciful Marketplace in order to provide Office users a resource to find tools for expanding the software capabilities and customizing the work the way they need to.Windows 8 logo

NEWS
Facebook News
Facebook follows you everywhere. It's on phones and computers, at work and home, and in the news. So it's understandable that people might need a little rest from the social network.

New research suggests that Facebook fatigue may be setting in with some users. Twenty-seven percent of Facebook users surveyed in the U.S. plan to spend less time on the site in 2013, compared with only 3% who plan to spend more time, according to a study from the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project.

(Another 69% of Facebook users say they plan to spend the same amount of time on the site this coming year.)

The Pew study also found that 61% of Facebook users have taken a break from the service for several weeks or more. During these breaks, the vast majority of Facebook vacationers don't delete their profiles.

The site boasts that it has more than a billion active users. Pew found that two-thirds, or 67%, of American adults who are online use Facebook.

The reasons people gave for taking a sabbatical from the network were varied. The most common motivation was not having enough time for the site, with 21% of people saying they were just too busy with real-life responsibilities to spend time reading posts, liking and commenting.

Other reasons for leaving: Ten percent called it a waste of time, 10% cited a lack of interest in the content, and 9% said they were unhappy with the amount of drama and gossip on the site. Only 4% of people mentioned privacy and security concerns as their reason for taking a breather.

Among the comments from those who took Facebook breaks: "I was tired of stupid comments." ... "(I had) crazy friends. I did not want to be contacted." ... "I took a break when it got boring." ... "It was not getting me anywhere." ... "You get burned out on it after a while." ... "I gave it up for Lent." ... "People were (posting) what they had for dinner." ... "I didn't like being monitored." ... "I got harassed by someone from my past who looked me up."... "It caused problems in my (romantic) relationship."

Greetings!

Put A Google Alert On Your Name

This is an incredibly easy way to stay on top of what's being said about you online. It takes less than a minute to do. Go here: http://www.google.com/alerts and enter your name, and variations of your name,

with quotation marks around it.

Sign Out Of Your Online Accounts When You're Finished Using Them

Not only will this slightly reduce the amount of tracking of you as you surf the Web, this prevents someone who later sits down at your computer from loading one of these up and getting snoopy. If you're using someone else's or a public computer, this is especially important. Yes, people actually forget to do this, with terrible outcomes.

Don't Give Out Your Email, Phone Number, Or Zip Code When Asked

Obviously, if a sketchy dude in a bar asks for your phone number, you say no. But when the asker is a uniform-wearing employee at Best Buy, many a consumer hands over their digits when asked. Stores often use this info to help profile you and your purchase. You can say no. If you feel badly about it, just pretend the employee is the sketchy dude in the bar.

Turn On 2-step Authentication In Gmail

This simple little step turns your phone into a security fob - in order for your Gmail account to be accessed from a new device, a person (hopefully you) needs a code that's sent to your phone. This means that even if someone gets your password somehow, they won't be able to use it to sign into your account from a strange computer. Google says that millions of people use this tool, and that "thousands more enroll each day. Be one of those people.

Change Your Facebook Settings To Friends Only

Visit your Facebook privacy settings.

Pay Cash For Embarrassing Items

Don't want a purchase to be easily tracked back to you? You've seen the movies! Use cash. One data mining CEO says this is how he pays for hamburgers and junk food these days.

Clear Your Browser History And Cookies On A Regular Basis

When's the last time you did that? If you just shrugged, consider changing your browser settings so that this is automatically cleared every session. Go to the privacy setting in your Browser's Options. Tell it to never remember your history. This will reduce the amount you're tracked online. Consider a browser add-on like TACO to further reduce tracking of your online behavior

Use An IP Masker

To hide your online footprint, you can download Tor or use an easy browser-based option like HideMyAss.com.

Q.   Should I purchase Microsoft Office or use the new service and pay annually?
A.  Many of you have told me that paying $99 per year (this is for home use - for up to five computers)  is a better way to purchase Microsoft Office so you can always have the current version.  I personally prefer to purchase my license for Office.  Also, I use Access so I always want to purchase a version of Office that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access and Publisher.

THANK YOU
