Skowhegan Savings Charitable Foundation Donates $1,000 to Smithfield Maine Historical Society

Donation to be used for front porch repairs at the Groves House

SKOWHEGAN, Maine - Skowhegan Savings recently announced that the Skowhegan Savings Charitable Foundation has made a $1,000 donation to the Smithfield Maine Historical Society. The donation will be used to finance repairs to the front porch of the Groves House, where the Historical Society's informational displays are housed.

The Smithfield Maine Historical Society seeks to preserve historical data and artifacts of Smithfield and the greater region, and to educate citizens about the history of the community. Informational displays are located throughout the Groves House, which was opened in 2012 as part of an initiative to restore historical homes in the region. The society also hosts educational programs in the area including a bus tour that showcases significant historical sites in Smithfield.

"We are very pleased to be able to make this donation," said John Witherspoon, Skowhegan Savings President and CEO. "The Smithfield Historical Society is a fantastic resource for citizens of the area, and we're happy to be a part of maintaining the history of this community."
