ASK JOE

Is Property Room
Accreditation Here?

Q
Dear Joe,

Can you tell me if IAPE or anyone else has a program for agencies like mine that wants to verify we are following the IAPE standards and practices we learned in class? I know some states have their own accreditation programs, and CALEA has accreditation for everything a law enforcement agency does.

Thanks, I Want To Be Accredited

A

Dear, I Want to Be Accredited

Great question, and your timing is perfect! Starting in late January 2013, IAPE started the IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation Program© to address just what you are asking about. It is the only accreditation program specifically designed to address law enforcement property and evidence rooms.

The IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation Program© is a review of a law enforcement agency's property and evidence systems by recognized experts in the field of property room management. The professional assessment of the agency's property room's standards, documentation, procedures and actions as they relate to recognized IAPE Standards© and the industry's best practices provides the agency with a quality report of their property room management.

Over 10 states in the United States currently have law enforcement accreditation programs, and CALEA is well known for comprehensive agency reviews and accreditation. IAPE has reviewed several of these programs, and found these programs address all the critical functions of a law enforcement agency. The IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation© Program reviews and addresses only property and evidence management systems, processes and best practices used throughout law enforcement agencies in the United States, Canada and beyond. The detail in which the review is done is much more thorough than any other accreditation program. IAPE facilitators have more experience in the field of property and evidence management and training than any other private or public sector organization, and this experience is brought to those involved in the property and evidence field.

IAPE is collaborating with CALEA to assist agencies in the field of law enforcement property and evidence management and accreditation. CALEA does an outstanding job on the overall accreditation of law enforcement agencies. Again, their work covers every major aspect of a law enforcement agency. IAPE works with more law enforcement agencies in this field than any other organization, and is recognized in the United States as the leader in auditing instruction and consulting in law enforcement property and evidence management.

Pricing for the IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation Program© is very reasonable, and is based on an agency's size.
