A long time has passed since our last newsletter and so much has happened. Wally and Penny are now buried at Dharmahorse and the passing of these two great beings was difficult. We made decisions with their well being and quality of life as priorities - that is what love is... period.

Majic has returned to us to help with tiny children, in equine assisted therapy and to help raise our new youngster (more about her later)! Hank has returned and things feel normal again for most of us. Mark has had raging success with the gardens and just heaps of food for us all - equine & human... plus herbs to make medicine and dry and cook with. This has been our very best summer having found the missing piece of this puzzle - Mark.
We had an awesome and raging success with the garage sale organized by Bonny Townsend at her home and coordinated by her, Johnny, our head staffer Danielle, Julie our long time tribe member, Jolie a new and vital member and a village of loving souls who made it happen (with some help from a special pony!) to bring in $1,700 for the horses (when we honestly had merely $5.00 in the account!!). We have had hay donated on two occasions and remain grateful beyond words.
Dream Cat has a monthly sponsor, Kathy, whose generosity assures ongoing blessings. The Onate high school special education bridge program returns next week to muck and help (after an orientation), they have partnered with us for almost 4 years now!
Without the volunteers, moral and physical support and financial help through donations, we could not care for the special beings who live here and, in turn, offer peace, compassion and connections for the people who resonate with our principles. We thank you all most deeply!
And, our motto is scrawled across one of the tackroom walls: "Just show up, be brave, be kind, rest, try again"
Luna came to us after being starved nearly to death
twice in her mere 3 years of life!
We have her on free choice grass hay, alfalfa hay, Timothy pellets (soaked), wheat bran mashes with flaxseed meal and herbs* (fenugreek, echinacea, kelp, rose hips and calendula). Plenty of clean water, Himalayan salt and exercise are all necessary for her healing. She is being started slowly in-hand. *see our Herbal Guide to know the reasons for choosing the herbs. |

All of the wonderful "beasties" here have their own set of needs and health requirements. As a Sanctuary, we depend entirely upon donations to care for the horses and 100% of all donations go directly to the care and well being of the horses. You can help us by donating, every bit helps.

 We are what we eat:
- We have been drying herbs from the gardens and making lots of medicines for the animals and for us.
- We are feeding fresh herbs in the nightly bran mashes along with medicinal dry herbs for each individual need.
- We are growing our own personal food with the healthy compost Mark grinds.
- Mark mixes the custom, holistic rations for each horse.
- We have many new shade cloths stretched across pens (each horse also has a metal roof) to keep water cool in the tubs - encouraging drinking.

And so are the horses - Billy is the one I went to and asked if we should get Vega & save him from death (before we were a non-profit!) and Billy said, "if he wants to live, bring him home". Love rules here.
A GIFT for you:

We never sit back and think anything is finished - there are always fences that could be improved (we would LOVE to replace all horse pen fences with safe, secure pipe panels!), new props for the therapy sessions and lessons (pedestals, jumps, bridges, etc.), portable buildings needed for classrooms and tack/tool storage, ramadas for shade, gardens & paths and our big dream - to build a cover over half the arena which will make it possible to school under cover in inclement weather.
