We have been working on building our garden and grinding our horse manure for compost and shedding winter coats and smelling the flowers; all things spring-like and preparatory for a season of holistic care and gentle schooling at Dharmahorse.... We are taking our tiny "Handsome Andy" to the "Help a Horse" event in Mesilla, New Mexico on April 26th. He will be the equine representative that night.
We have won an award for our newsletter (this newsletter!) and we have won a contest for assistance with writing a grant for expansion of the DH facility and our programs that help women, children and those in need.
While much is happening, the hay fund and the hay supply have dwindled this past 2 months. We are in need of donations to keep everyone fed and healthy! Any amount helps a lot!
Cloches help us get gardens started early: A half round piece of field mesh fence makes a dandy frame and clear plastic pinned to the lower sides holds warmth while mesh across the top keeps birds and insects out of garden beds....

HERBAL SOLUTIONS from Dharmahorse Milk Thistle to support & cleanse the liver:
 Milk Thistle - Silybum marianum
The seeds of the milk thistle are an exceptionally useful tonic in the spring to clear the equine body of toxins, being especially cleansing for the liver. Because horses do not have gall bladders, their liver secretes bile continuously for digestion. This works well for horses in a natural environment, eating small amounts of fibrous foods almost continuously. The liver also stores the lipids; fats and fat soluble vitamins. When it becomes stressed by the feeding of infrequent meals high in fats or through the filtering of toxins or the excess of inorganic minerals in the diet, the liver needs support. The first choice for this support at Dharmahorse is the milk thistle seed. High in silymarin and other flavololignans, it uses these phenols to calm an overactive organ and allow the cells to release the inflammation and irritation.
Additions to the Equine diet that enhance the liver are:
- Burdock Root
- Dandelion Leaf
- Dandelion Root
- Turmeric
- Red Beet Roots

 Natural Paths
Education of owners can be of great value to horses. Naturalpaths will be the link for healing information and to connect for instruction. The non-profit Dharmahorse Inc. will always benefit from the activities of either. The paths we follow can be great adventures or simple steps of positive change. Choosing and staying fully present are the keys to success and joy. Our Upcoming Workshop on "horses 101" still has room for participants!! Books (paperback and Kindle) on equine and canine health, well being & schooling as well as nutrition for people can be found here - CLICK HERE
