From the Earth

When we work with horses or other animals, we are deeply connected to the Earth. It is not simply that we work with other earthlings, but that we walk, run, sit (sometimes fall) on the earth and, come evening, are covered with the earth.

We inhale and ingest microbes that enhance our immunity (seriously). Walking on the dirt instead of the concrete brings healing vibrations up through our feet.

The life surrounding us; quail, doves, bunnies, bull snakes, tarantulas, roadrunners, dung beetles, coyotes, hawks, eagles, prairie dogs, butterflies and more here at Dharmahorse, all interact and play with us daily.

To be from the Earth is a noble and simple thing we should all celebrate. To do so, just get out and sit on the ground a few minutes each day. It will recharge your spirit!

Choosing a Horse

When you are looking for a horse to add to your family, make a list of the things you hope to be able to do with this new partner. If jumping is your dream, choose a type or breed of horse who is built to jump. A laterally gaited horse would usually be a poor choice for jumping, but if you want to go down the trail for hours, the gaited horse will be a perfect choice.

Consider things like age, gender and height according to your personal needs. Have that vision of the horse you need before you go looking, it will help you avoid falling in love with one that might disappoint. Yet, falling deeply in love with one can be exactly what is needed and then you discover just what is possible within the pairing. Life is funny that way.

Herbal Wound Powder

At Dharmahorse, we make our own wound powder by simply grinding fresh rosemary leaves to a fine powder. You can also buy the powdered rosemary leaf through herb supply sites or at natural health stores.

Simply pack it onto wounds to create an antiseptic "scab" that also repels insects.
