Day By Day

We've had a rough year here at Dharmahorse! Our sweet 21 year old dog, Basil, passed over and four days ago my mother passed.

I am taking things "day by day" right now - reviewing much of what all has happened and feeling content in the process that unfolded, knowing I did the best I could. The horses are awesome friends and good things have happened as well.

We have had some wonderful horses join our herd and our most recent addition, Sage, took student Michelle to a second place award in her division at the Las Cruces Horse Trials (that's them at the top of this letter).

While we are not a competition based stable, our philosophies apply to any activity and any goal.

I spent yesterday at the hot springs, one hour north of Las Cruces. It was a clearing and healing experience. Everything that supports the good health of our horses and of us, ourselves, is of value.

So, Michelle and Sage had lovely weather for their Dressage; howling wind and dirt for their Stadium Jumping; frozen temps and blowing sleet for their Cross Country - ah, New Mexico!! Land of Enchantment!

I am quite proud of all of the students and horses here. The tribe and my friends have kept DH alive as things fell apart around me. I am grateful.

Winter dropped on us like a curtain - but nothing like what the rest of the country is enduring.  We wish you safety and warmth, love and peace always.

building confidence
Build Confidence

If your horse finds something frightening or is reticent to approach new objects, you can build his confidence by having someone pull or roll the scary object slowly away from him as he moves gradually toward it.

All horses feel safer approaching something rather than having it come toward them! And if it feels like the "thing" is escaping, he becomes more intrigued than disconcerted.

Herb Profile:

Echinacea is a special herb for boosting the immune system. Both the root and the leaf are used for horses and they can be fed in mashes or infused in water and used to soak mashes.

The only condition contraindicated for echinacea use is any sort of auto-immune disorder.
