It's all perspective
Greetings!

logo Quite a while back, after it had been raining here in New Mexico, a friend and I went plein air painting in the valley. Our scene was of the desert hills, looking across the wet fields. We set up in the same spot, worked in different mediums but with the same focus. I was reminded of that day while visiting with her this past week. We were kind of surprised at how different our paintings were from each other... yet, we were looking through different eyes, seeing from different perspectives.

The paintings at the top and the scene we viewed just above are a clear picture of how each of us has a unique "take" on the world around us. Our experiences and our viewpoints will differ even when we are staring at the same thing or are plopped right in the middle of the same event. With this in mind, we can better understand each others' possible confusion, doubt or frustration in situations we may find totally the opposite. From this experience with the paintings, I realize that someone who opposes me in a situation may actually be seeing the same thing I do but has a dramatically different perspective. I can learn not to take it personally! It is not about me - it is about perception. It is about how wonderfully unique we all are.
