No Fear
Things that move and things that don't move...

Greetings!
Many years ago a teacher told me that horses are only afraid of two things, "Things that move and things that don't move". I was speechless, having not heard it before.
I sit here in my kitchen today instead of my office cabin because of how very cold the day is! As I hear my furnace kick on again and the fan start pushing the warm air through rattly floor vents, I wonder how much propane is in the tank I can see through the window...
The dogs have gathered on the living room floor on top of comforters I spread about. 19 year old Basil lies right beside (almost on top of!) the vent. She also lies right there in the summer for the cold air. Smart doggy.
Outside the snow is still falling. It is just past noon. We had a bit of an ice storm last night up here on the mountain and I spent the hours until dark getting blankets straightened on the horses, ice chopped from their water tubs and lots of hay and warm mashes into their feeders. I'm thinking about the hay stacked by the barns. I'm thinking about the food (human and canine) I ran to the city yesterday just before dawn to get, staying ahead of the winter storm... I am thinking about Jerry who has moved from here to his own place farther up the mountain and how I am taking care of everything on my own. I could get scared, but I don't dare!
In my favorite book, "Shambala, sacred path of the warrior", Trungpa Rinpoche talks about the true warrior attaining a state of gentleness. About the Dralas, energy beyond aggression and how our true natures are fearless.
"It is not just an arbitrary idea that the world is good. but it is good because we can experience its goodness." He says, "Shambala vision is tuning in to our ability to wake ourselves up and recognize that goodness can happen to us. In fact, it is happening already." |

Consideration
Your horse is a total herbivore. He should not be fed products that contain ingredients from animal sources. I am a vegetarian. I have total understanding of how ingestion of an unfamiliar animal flesh product can upset the digestive tract from one end to the other. Because I am a mammal and so is your horse, we can ingest things like yogurt without ill effect (of course, yogurt is very nourishing and health enhancing!) as long as it is free of things like artificial sweeteners, colors and the like.
Horses were made to move - exercise is vital to their good health (ours, too!). | Herbal Horses |

 Non- attachment
In her book, "Excuse me, your life is waiting", Lynn Grabhorn says about Joy and Fear: "When we're experiencing anything that Joy isn't, such as fear, worry, guilt or even mild concern, those emotions are sending out low frequency vibrations. Since low frequencies are every bit as magnetic as high frequencies, they're going to attract only cruddy stuff back to us, meaning anything of that same low frequency that will cause us to feel (and vibrate) as lousy as what we're sending out".
While some fears can keep us from driving fast on icy roads or walking down dark alleys at night (and I tend to call those wise discretion...), attaching to any fear by giving it more than a fleeting consideration is to allow its invasion and influence within your very soul.Simple, Natural Prevention Some fears come from a "what if" dialog about the health and well being of our horses - often generated by drug companies and a medical system that sees through eyes of aggression: "Attack" dis-ease, Vaccinate to make immunity (the body does have an immune system), use chemistry to rid a body of what's not wanted, synthesize properties from nature for supplements and medicines without regard for all the other subtle properties that prevent side effects - it is an aggressive system that, on specific instances, can be useful. But, as a philosophy, the fear based protocols can be devastating. Even prevention can become fear driven - to keep horses stalled and "protected" for 23 hours of the day will possibly keep them from being kicked by another horse or injured from a fall... but it will keep them hyper vigilant and make it much more likely that they WILL be injured if they accidentally get out and experience unfamiliar freedom!
Simple, Natural prevention means providing natural foods, clean water, shelter, exercise, herbs, salt, companionship - all the things a horse is designed to experience and ingest. These will support organs, soundness and immunity. SEE MORE about Natural Health... |
