PLANNING BOARD MEETING, Wed., June 12, 7 PM, in City Council Room
Click for full agenda.

Of greatest concern to Sustainable Saratoga is the proposal at the former Ellsworth ice cream plant, a critical transitional property for the in-fill development of the west side.  Below are some issues we find important.  We encourage you to share your reactions and perspectives with the Planning Board.

    - The developer's obligation to cede 7'6" along Cherry Street to bring it into compliance with mandated width of the right-of-way.  The width of our right-of-ways and streetscapes is critical to Complete Streets, the trees, and the character of our city.   Currently the plans show a 5' "easement."

   - Respect for the future potential of Cherry St. and the inclusive feel of the neighborhood.  Currently 10 of 24 units face onto a private alley or an internal parking lot and do not front on a public street.

   - The trees, especially the historic, 37" white oak on Cherry St.

   - And more.

URBAN & COMMUNITY FOREST MASTER PLAN.
City Council unanimously adopted the plan on May 21, 2013

This is hardly new news, but the media had a few details garbled, so we thought it worth a quick summary.  Contrary to reports in the paper:
   - This was the final vote.  There will be no further vote in June.
   - Once the council adopted it, the plan was no longer a "draft" plan.  It is now simply the Urban and Community Forest Master Plan of the City of Saratoga Springs.
   - The plan they adopted was not "Sustainable Saratoga's plan."  Although we were involved in many key parts of the process, and were happy to partner in some important ways with the City, the plan was authored by the City's paid consultant.  The committee that revised the plan was chaired by Deputy Mayor Sutton, and representatives of Sustainable Saratoga were present at some but not all of the meetings.  We did support the plan and look forward to working to ensure its implementation.
