Letter from the Chair

Summer came in like a lion! It's as if I woke up one day and BAM - there's the heat of a Texas summer. MYP will be keeping it "cool" with (mostly indoor) events throughout the summer, providing our members with opportunities to grow their networks.

Of course, with summer comes MYP's 4th Annual Christmas in July presented by First United Bank, benefitting abused and neglected children served by CASA of Collin County. The McKinney Young Professionals collect toys and gift cards throughout the month of June and part of July at various drop off locations that are listed in the flyer below. This year, we kicked off Christmas in July at the McKinney Chamber's new member showcase on June 5. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of attendees, and can't wait to continue collecting more toys and gift cards for such an important cause in our community.

Stay tuned for more networking events and opportunities to get involved in our community!

MYP Events in Review

Between March and April, MYP had 21 new members.

  • In March we had our Lunch Networking event, sponsored by La Madeleine. Kami Irvin, MYP Professional Development Chair, switched things up with an interactive networking game, "It's All in the Cards." Over 40 young professionals were in attendance.
  • Bien Salsa generously hosted our April After-Hours. Over 45 young professionals attended, including many new faces to MYP.
  • YP Uncorked and Untapped, a joint event with Allen/Fairview, Dallas, Frisco, McKinney and Plano chambers, was held at the Fairview Farms Corral Barn on May 8. The weather was not on our side with tornado warnings and thunderstorms, but over 120 young professionals braved it all and the event was a HUGE hit! Franconia Brewery, Landon Winery and Market Street represented McKinney as vendors.

MYP Member Spotlight: Ross Gillispie, MYP Chair Elect

Ross has been a McKinney resident for two years, where he lives with his wife, Rachel and their dog, Pico. Originally from the Metroplex, Ross traveled north of the border for college, and earned his Bachelor's in Finance from Oklahoma State University. Directly out of school he entered the Management Trainee program with a bank in Oklahoma, where he received the foundation of his knowledge in the banking industry.

Ross is a Commercial Lender with North Dallas Bank & Trust in Plano, where he is able to serve customers in what he calls "True Relationship Banking." Ross says that one of the best parts of his job is helping customers with all facets of their lives. While his niche is commercial banking, he recognizes that many small business owners need home and personal loans too, and Ross relishes that he can fully care for his customer's needs without them feeling like they're being passed off to someone else.

Ross enjoys meeting new people and focuses on how to help them achieve their goals and dreams. In this ever increasing regulatory environment, he feels that it is good to have a stable and secure institution to trust with your money. As one of the area's largest independent banks, North Dallas Bank & Trust Co. proudly claims a history with the same name, same ownership and a record of profitability for every year in operation.
