A Word From the President

As the Holiday Season is upon us, I find myself reflecting on the past year, and on those who have truly shaped our business. We value our relationship with you our customers, vendors, and industry partners. We look forward to working with you in the year to come.

2014 was a year of milestones - the 50th anniversary of NEM; embarking on a two year Workforce Training Grant to prepare our business and staff for improved efficiency and expanded skills to achieve high standards in advanced manufacturing; and  the broadening  our work with educational institutions and government agencies to prepare the next generation of talent entering the workforce.

Some of our plans for the New Year include the purchase of new machinery and inspection equipment to better serve our customers; sponsorship of Envision the Future - a summer residential STEM Program for girls age 11-13; and the implementation of lean manufacturing improvements.

We wish you peace and prosperity in 2015 and we look forward to continuing our work with each of you!

Best Regards,
Jon

Charlie Wirth

Our year-end edition of the Turning Times features the work of Charlie Wirth. Charlie has been with the NEM team for eighteen years. He shows up to work every day with a smile on his face and a strong work ethic. "I look forward to coming to work each day because I work with great people and have a great support system. Whether it is the president of the company, Jon Holbrook, or the production manager, Mike Medeiros, there is always someone to respond to my questions or concerns," Wirth said when asked his feelings about working at NEM.

Charlie runs our Finishing Department which includes

our custom designed  Miraclean ultrasonic cleaning system and various vibratory tumblers. "I enjoy being able to work independently in a fast paced department, where there are four or five things going on at all times. Using my background in cooking, I look at the finishing department as a fine tuned kitchen, where instead of cooking up quality food, I have the role of final finishing of our quality machined components." Charlie looks at the care that the company has put into purchasing top of the line machinery as a reflection of the respect that North Easton Machine Company has for his work.

NEM strives to provide a better pre-plate preparation for our finishing vendors and a cleaner part shipped to our customers. Charlie's knowledge of the deburring, polishing, and cleaning requirements for a wide variety of industrial applications is vital to our success. We are proud that Charlie Wirth is a member of our team and would like to thank him for all his hard work and dedication every day!

A Look Back at 2014

NEM Discusses OJT Program
CareerWorks and BAWIB co-sponsored an employer information session featuring On-The-Job Training and Apprenticeship Programs. The meeting was well-attended by companies from Southeastern Massachusetts
representing manufacturing, retail,
transportation, and nursing businesses.

Our HR Manager, Paula Martel, was a program presenter, outlining our experience tapping into OJT Grants.  She explained the benefits of the program, the candidate screening process, and how to get started. The On-the-Job Training Program enables a company to hire new employees and train them at their place of business while being reimbursed a percentage of the new employee's wages during training. The reimbursement  for a company with less than 50 employees is 90% of the trainee's salary for up to 1040 hours.

North Easton Machine Company recently hired a new member of the team, Nick Resendes, using an OJT Grant. We are happy to have the opportunity to train Nick and  help him better gain  the skills needed to succeed. This program is a great asset in helping meet the skills gap and demand for employees in the manufacturing industry.

Remembering
Charlie Chadwick

This was a difficult year for the NEM Team. Charles Chadwick, a long time employee,  passed away on October 8, 2014, following a battle with cancer.

Charles, better known to friends as Charlie, was working as the purchasing agent at the time of his diagnosis. He started his career at NEM in 1982, as a machinist.  He moved to an office role in 2008.

Charlie was a warm and caring man who made a positive impression on anyone who came into contact with him. You could always find Charlie smiling as he walked around the facility, stopping to talk with everyone who crossed his path. As a team here at NEM, we would like to take time to remember a dedicated worker, whose glowing personality  and spirit will be missed but never forgotten!

STEM Summit 2014

Human Resources Manager, Paula Martel, recently attended the Massachusetts STEM Summit at the DCU Center in Worcester.  The event brought together 1300 educators, business leaders, and government agencies to celebrate and advance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) curricula and careers.

The theme of the event was  "Gateway to the Future" and focused on educating a more skillful workforce.
