Oh, What a Night...Spring...Year! Celebrating 2015-2016
by Mary Gallivan, Board Chair
May 11 was an exciting evening.  The Women's Impact Fund granted a total of $437,000 to five inspired, and inspiring, organizations, bringing the total we've awarded since 2004 to $4.6 million.  We are known - as we should be - for the power of our grants, the detailed approach we take to our initial evaluation of the grant applicants, and the tracking of their work and achievements as they use our funds.

Have you considered, however, the other accomplishments of this organization during the last 12 months?  We are owning and living our strategic plan, positioning the Women's Impact Fund for long-term leadership in this community.

Leadership
We combined the work of the Membership and Member Education Committees into one powerhouse Member Engagement Committee, which planned and executed more than 27 events, large and small, educational and social, during our program year.
*    In October, we hosted more than 300 women from across the United States as part of the Women's Collective Giving Grantmakers Network.  WIF members led or spoke at more than a quarter of the 60 sessions, and our army of nearly 50 volunteers elevated the event to the next level.
*    Operations Manager Jessica Klasinski and Program Assistant Kathleen Bambrick Meier both celebrated their one-year anniversaries.
We've highlighted in sWIFt the skills, talents and stories of our Members and look forward to continuing to put you in the spotlight.

Innovation and Strategy
We commissioned UNC Charlotte's Urban Institute to undertake a long-term impact study, interviewing our more than 45 distinct grantees so that we can see, over the course of 13 years, how the issues they address are changing and what types of grants have made the most difference. The full report is expected in late summer....READ MORE

WIF MEMBER NEWS

Congratulations!:  Former WIF Board Chair Elaine Lyerly, a long-time leader with the Red Cross, has been tapped for a new position. She'll be the first chair of the International Council of the organization's Tiffany Circle.

Carolyn Meade, another go-getter former Board Chair, won the Women's Master Division of the inaugural Charlotte Heptaphalon to raise money for the Children's Scholarship Fund. So be impressed! The competition included seven events: pull-ups, dips, vertical leaps, a mile run, a 40-yard dash, a shuttle run and a 500-meter row.

The NC School of Dentistry is renaming a prominent lecture series after Stephanie Chen, DDS in honor of her longtime alumna commitment. The "Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry" lecture series will be renamed the "Stephanie Chen Pediatric Dentistry Lecture Series."

Susan Patterson will serve as the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library's inaugural Community Fellow. Patterson will assist the Library's ongoing community engagement activities, serve as a thought leader, coordinate community-oriented projects and share her skills, knowledge and experience.

In The News:  Betty Chafin Rash and husband Dennis put their lovely Fourth Ward garden on tour and were featured in The Charlotte Observer.

WIF members, we want to hear from you!  This new feature - WIF Member News - depends totally on you!  Please send us news of a new job, new volunteer leadership role, a new addition to your family, a big move or anything else you'd like to share with your family of WIF friends.  Email: [email protected]
