New Member Recruitment Event

Know a woman that would be a great addition to the
Women's Impact Fund?

If so, please invite her to the next Member Recruitment event - from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 2nd at Vin Master on South Boulevard. Please invite one, two or three women before signing up yourself.

Here's the process: send the names and email addresses of your invitees to WIF's Operations Manager
Jessica Lehmann (jlehmann@womensimpactfund.org). She'll ensure your guests are invited and registered and receive all the necessary information.

Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so get your names to Jessica quickly. This is one event where we want potential members to outnumber current members!

Save The Date for Wine & Wisdom 2015
Mark your calendar now for this year's Wine & Wisdom: 6-8:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9th, at Wake Forest Charlotte Center on College Street Uptown.

This year's Wine & Wisdom will feature a community conversation on measuring non-profit effectiveness. It follows a provocative presentation last fall by Dan Pallotta in which he debunked the use of overhead as an important measure. It prompted many donors and board members to ask: If overhead is not the right tool, how should we evaluate an organization's effectiveness? What are the most common characteristics of a high-performing non-profit?

Chris McLeod, Ron Lamberth, Tom Lawrence

WIF Board Member Chris McLeod will moderate the discussion. Panelists will include Tom Lawrence, executive director of The Leon Levine Foundation; Karla Williams, organizational consultant and author; and Ron Lamberth, CPA and partner, Cherry Baekert.

It promises to be a lively and useful discussion for all WIF members.

Event sponsors are the Institute of Philanthropic Leadership and Wake Forest Charlotte Center.

Invitation with registration details to come next week!

Getting to know Kathy Izard

(Editor's Note: This is the first in an on-going series of interviews and Q&A's with WIF members. Please submit your ideas of members we should interview).

Kathy Izard, a WIF member since 2004, has always been committed to giving back. As a girl, she joined her family in volunteering in their border city of El Paso, TX. As an adult, Kathy wanted her four daughters to have a similar experience, and in 1995, the family started spending Sunday mornings volunteering in the Urban Ministry Center's soup kitchen.

More than a decade later, Kathy joined forces with Sarah Belk in creating and coordinating the Urban Ministry Center's first annual fundraiser, True Blessings. Not only was True Blessings a tremendous success for the Urban Ministry Center, it was also a turning point for the Urban Ministry Center and for Kathy.

Through the planning of True Blessings, Kathy got to know Denver Moore, one of the keynote speakers. Formerly homeless, he is the co-author of the New York Times bestseller, "Same Kind of Different as Me."

The Importance of WIF Values
By Anne Essaye, Board Member and leader of Strategic Planning Task Force

Last spring, I went to an "in-home social" with about 30 other WIF members. Even though I've been a member for years, I only knew about 10 women there. For me, there is always some awkwardness when I'm at a party and don't know a lot of the people.

We eventually gathered in the kitchen, and all answered one question. "What is your passion in the community?" As each woman spoke, I realized I actually had a lot of connections with many of the women I had not met before. Suddenly, I had quite a lot to talk about with them, and I did. The experience made me feel so engaged and energized.
