New Recipient for Arts & Culture Grant

Women's Impact Fund is pleased to award the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art a $54,600 grant to give traditionally underserved individuals new opportunities to create and experience art. The Bechtler will use the funds to expand two existing outreach programs for at-risk youth, developmentally disabled individuals, and incarcerated people. It also will launch a new program making art more accessible to those with low or no vision.

Funding for the Bechtler became available after Charlotte Children's Choir declined its 2014 grant due to unforeseen staffing changes. Its board decided the small organization could not undertake a new program at this time and instead will focus on its core mission.

WIF is committed to funding all five of our focus areas when possible, and the membership vote between the two Arts and Culture finalists was close this year. The Bechtler, as a strong Arts and Culture finalist, stood ready to use our funding. Museum officials assure us that they can leverage our dollars in a way that still will have a strong impact in our community even though the grant is less than the original request. The Children's Choir will be eligible to reapply for a WIF grant at a future date.

Help Us Find our New Program Director

As announced in our last issue of sWIFt, Susan Ehrman, our Women's Impact Fund Program Director of five years, has decided to move to Portland, Oregon. While we are excited for her, we are also sad to lose her in-depth knowledge of our organization and her passion for the work we do.

It also means we need to find a new Program Director! This link will take you to the job description for the position, which also includes information on how to apply. Please share this with those you know who might have an interest in the updated role. Our new Program Director will work with us on the priorities you, as members, helped us set during our strategic planning process last year. Resumes are being accepted through July 25th.

Finally, please note that Susan's last day will be Tuesday, July 29. Debra Wideman, our program assistant, will continue with us. Thank you, Debra, for your ongoing support.

Make your gift the easy way - monthly payments!

Your annual membership contribution is due by December 31st. Do it the easy way: start monthly payments of $200 in July by completing our automatic draft form, and you will be all set!

Converting to the monthly payment plan provides regular cash flow for Women's Impact Fund and gives us certainty regarding the size of our grant pool for the coming year.

On the form, you will see the opportunity to include an additional amount to support our operations and programs. We encourage you to consider $20 (or more!).

In order to participate, we need to receive your  completed form by July 15th. Save the form to your computer, fill it out, and send to Debra.

A Welcome and a Challenge!

A big welcome to the 80 women who have joined Women's Impact Fund in the last year, and a big thank you to our Membership Committee and to each of you who helped to recruit these new members. We are thrilled to have you!

Our challenge for the upcoming year: engagement. Do you have friends who are members but whom you haven't seen at an event in a while? Call; perhaps both of you can come to the event at the Mint on July 9! Let's reconnect with each other this year. As the Girl Scouts like to say, "Make new friends, but keep the old."
