Greetings!

April is an important month for libraries.  National Library Week is celebrated from April 10th to the 16th.  This is also the month that NJ librarians make special visits to our elected officials in state government to update them on what libraries are up to, discuss how we help not just the community but the government as well, and to gain support for important legislation that can aid all NJ libraries. And at the end of the month, the Haddonfield Friends of the Library hold their annual meeting, see details below.

We're another month closer to completing the renovation and you'll find updates in this issue. Keep watching our website for continual updates where we're posting all the news as it develops!

We have a new addition to our Museum Pass program!  Starting on April 6th, you'll be able to visit the Air Victory Museum.  Located at the South Jersey Regional Airport, the Air Victory Museum displays military aircraft and aviation artifacts.  For more info about our museum passes, click here.

I'd like to extend an invitation to you to share with me if you'd like to contribute to the activities at the library.  We're creating a space for a 21st century community hub that will grow and respond to your needs and interests.  People get much needed training, entertainment, socializing, and collaboration in the library, but sometimes we need to create an excuse to bring folks together. What skills and interests do you have that could be taught to or shared with others?  Drop me a line at ezino@haddonfieldlibrary.org.

Cordially,

Acting Library Director & Editor

The Library Board has set the library schedules for 2016.

National Library Week

National Library Week 2016 is April 10-16!
Book Spine Poetry is a fun thing to do with books - whether they are library books or your own books, stack them up so that the titles form a poem.  It can be a sentiment, a thought, an observation, whatever you can think of!

This National Library Week, the Haddonfield Public Library will be accepting your submissions - make your own book spine poem, snap a pic, and either email it to us at ezino@haddonfieldlibrary.org or post it on your own, but tag it to be part of our thread (use hashtag #hplpoem). We'll ask the person or persons who submits our favorite poems if we can turn your image into a limited run of giveaway bookmarks that promotes our library!

    Renovation Updates:

We've begun acquiring some of the new technology and equipment for the renovated library.  Thanks to the wonderful generosity of individual donors, the Haddonfield Friends of the Library, the Haddonfield Adult School and the Haddonfield Rotary Club, there will be more ways for you get things done at the library.  Just a few examples: we have selected a great interactive projector for the public meeting room that will really modernize how instruction is given; touchscreen catalogs will be available on every level to help you browse and search our collections; the teen room is being outfitted with collaborative tech including a large screen display and data ports; and wireless printing will be an option to help you do more from your own devices when you visit the library.

Shelving and furniture are also being ordered now.

Click on the following links to view floor plans (different shapes that represent types of furniture/seating only indicate presence, not necessarily exact shape of the furniture):

Don't miss the chance to hear about the renovation in detail from the project architect Anthony Iovino, project manager Sharon Parker, and mayor Jeff Kasko at the Friends of the Library annual meeting. April 27th at 7PM in the borough hall auditorium.

Buy a Leaf to support the "We Love Our Library" Campaign

The HPL Library Board of Trustees has initiated  the "We Love Our Library" campaign to provide fund raising for the library's long awaited expansion and renovation.

The campaign will raise funds for the enhancements, such as contemporary furnishings, equipment, and newer technology throughout the building. You can help by buying a leaf on the tree mural created by HMHS National Honor Society members. The tree has moved over to the annex.  Donations are being accepted from $5 to $250. Check with the library staff at the  circulation desk. Donations of $250 or above will be permanently honored in the library after completion of the renovation, anticipated to be completed in the first half of 2016! For more information  visit here!
