November is a busy month. Come out to support the Haddonfield Friends by attending the Unwitting and the Unwilling- a wonderful historic play on Nov. 6 or 8. See story below. The Friends Book Sale was a huge success. See photos of the community book sale. Our Friends did a great job, as always!

The library renovation is progressing. The roof will be replaced soon! The addition is starting to be covered. See photo below.

Don't forget to ask about our Museum pass program for family fun at no cost with your library card!

Check out the photos of Snapshot Day showing people using the library on Oct. 21. Children enjoyed making fall crafts and the Halloween programs with Miss Jordan. Children's programs continue at Borough Hall. We are very grateful to the staff and Commissioners at Borough Hall for making space for programs for the library during the renovation.

Don't forget to check out the library's subscriptions to eBooks (the 3M Cloud and  Overdrive) which also has downloadable audio books. We also have Hoopla, providing download and streaming of movies, music, TV shows, and more audio books. If you have a new or older device, stop in on Nov. 4 or 18 to get started with these subscriptions or visit the links above with lots of information to get started. All with your library card! With the renovation, please consider these subscriptions to avail yourself of thousands of eBooks and audiobooks, movies, music, and TV.

About Us

The Friends of the Library Book Sale Was a Great Success!

The Haddonfield Friends of the Library had a wonderful book sale from Oct. 2-4 at the First Presbyterian Church. About 200 people came out in the rain for the Members Only event. The Friends made $14,000 over the three day sale. They thank everyone who volunteered, donated books, the First Presbyterian Church and the community for supporting the ever popular sale.

The Library Board and staff thank our Friends for their ever present support of the library. Visit here to see photos of the book sale. To learn more about or to join the Friends, go to  http://www.hfol.org

THE UNWITTING AND THE UNWILLING : a Play with Mark Twain and Frederick Douglass on Nov. 6 and 8

Join the Haddonfield Friends of the Library for an evening or matinee with Mark Twain and Frederick Douglass on November 6 at 7 pm or November 8 at 1:30 pm at Grace Episcopal Church's Performance Hall auditorium. Bring your family to this unique and funny historical play and support the Friends of the Library! Tickets are $20 and are on sale at the Haddonfield Public Library annex at 123 Kings Highway East, online at  http://www.marktwainstravelingtheatre.com/ or at the door at each performance.

The play begins with Frederick Douglass, abolitionist and orator, visiting his friend Mark Twain, author and humorist, backstage during intermission of a typical Twain Lecture.  This is a lecture with the customary Readings, Discussions and Rants!
Yes, Mark Twain and Frederick Douglass are friends.  They first met in the parlor of the Langdon home in Elmira, NY.   Twain, the dissolute journalist, was courting and soon succeeded in marrying Olivia Langdon.  For some time and well prior to this meeting, the Langdon family were staunchly abolitionist.  Abolitionist at a time when the Fugitive Slave Act made this a remarkably courageous stand.  They had opened their home to countless runaway slaves and it was an active way station on the Underground Railroad.
The players are Richard A. Bonnette as Mark Twain and Leon Morgan as Frederick Douglass. For a full description visit here.
The Tech Logic self-check out unit! Check it out!
DIY at the Haddonfield Public Library Annex!

A new  do-it-yourself check-out station is now available at the Haddonfield Public Library. Patrons may check-out and renew most of their own library items. Here's how...
  • You will need your library card and library password to  access the self check station.
  • A touch screen monitor, scanner, and receipt printer make this DIY experience a snap. E-receipts can be requested, too.
  • There are a few restrictions to keep in mind.  Customers with expired library cards, overdue items, or fines of $5.00 or more will be asked to see library staff before using self check.
  •  DVDs in locked cases still need to be checked out by a staff member.
  • Materials can be renewed via self check as long as the item has not been previously renewed or another patron has not requested it.
  • The self check computer will alert you to any of these conditions.
  • Our thanks to Tech Logic for generously funding this valuable service for the Haddonfield community

The self check workstation and software were part of a prize won by Library Director Susan Briant at a Public Library Association Conference.  Tech Logic Corporation generously awarded the prize and worked closely with staff to deploy the station at the library.  Our very capable staff who implented the project are: Kathleen Metrick, Pam Alles, Jeannie Reinking, and Eric Zino.
