October is the beginning of the fall season. This year the Friends of the Library are having the book sale from Oct. 2-4. It will be held at the Presbyterian Church at 20 Kings Highway in the gymnasium on the lower level. A new development is that all of the books will be on sale on Oct. 2 at the Members Only preview. Read more the exciting sale below!

The library renovation is progressing. See a photo of the 2000 square foot addition below! Watch for announcements from the LIbrary Board.

We launched our new self check out unit in Sept. Stop in and check it out! Snapshot Day is Oct. 21. We will be taking pictures of people using our library that day, as will libraries all over NJ. The best kept secret is too often the public library. Help us spread the word about how valuable the library is to your family.

Children's programs continue at Borough Hall. We are very grateful to the staff and Commissioners at Borough Hall for making space for programs for the library during the renovation.

Don't forget to check out the library's subscriptions to eBooks (the 3M Cloud and  Overdrive) which also has downloadable audio books. We also have Hoopla, providing download and streaming of movies, music, TV shows, and more audio books. If you have a new or older device, stop in on Oct. 14 to get started with these subscriptions or visit the links above with lots of information to get started. All with your library card! With the renovation, please consider these subscriptions to avail yourself of thousands of eBooks and audiobooks, movies, music, and TV.

Cordially,

The Tech Logic self-check out unit! Check it out!
DIY at the Haddonfield Public Library Annex!

A new  do-it-yourself check-out station is now available at the Haddonfield Public Library. Patrons may check-out and renew most of their own library items. Here's how...
  • You will need your library card and library password to  access the self check station.
  • A touch screen monitor, scanner, and receipt printer make this DIY experience a snap. E-receipts can be requested, too.
  • There are a few restrictions to keep in mind.  Customers with expired library cards, overdue items, or fines of $5.00 or more will be asked to see library staff before using self check.
  •  DVDs in locked cases still need to be checked out by a staff member.
  • Materials can be renewed via self check as long as the item has not been previously renewed or another patron has not requested it.
  • The self check computer will alert you to any of these conditions.
  • Throughout October, library staff will be promoting this new service with goodies and a raffle.
  • Enter the raffle by trying out self check and telling us what you enjoyed about the experience.  One entry per patron.
  • Our thanks to Tech Logic for generously funding this valuable service for the Haddonfield community

The self check workstation and software were part of a prize won by Library Director Susan Briant at a Public Library Association Conference.  Tech Logic Corporation generously awarded the prize and worked closely with staff to deploy the station at the library.  Our very capable staff who implented the project are: Kathleen Metrick, Pam Alles, Jeannie Reinking, and Eric Zino.

   Haddonfield Fortnightly Decorates the Library

The Haddonfield Fortnightly Women's group marched in the 4th of July parade in Haddonfield. They created sandwich boards of famous children's books, which they wore in support of the Haddonfield Public Library. Several of these lovely illustrated books are now on display in the annex at 123 Kings Highway. Our special thanks to Debbie Mervine and all of the Fortnightly women who contributed the artwork. We also thank the Fortnightly for supporting the library over many years.  Stop in and see the posters!

Winnie the Pooh and friends adorn the children's corner at the library annex. c/o the Haddonfield Fortnightly.

Haddonfield Adult School Donates to the 21st Century Library Fund!

The Haddonfield Adult School has made a generous $10,000  donation to the Haddonfield Public Library to use for the library renovation and expansion that is currently under way. Funds will be placed in the Haddonfield Public Library's 21st Century Campaign fund. The Library Board of Trustees has established this fund to pay for enhancements to the renovation that will provide flexible spaces to accommodate technology such as laptops and mobile devices; materials in multiple formats for a diverse population of users and the creation of a welcoming, comfortable environment for Haddonfield's library users of all ages. Our special thanks to HAS for this wonderful donation!  Visit HAS webpage to learn about adult classes! Watch for information on the 21st Century Campaign!

Buy a Leaf to support the "We Love Our Library" Campaign

The HPL Library Board of Trustees has
initiated  the "We Love Our Library" campaign to provide fund raising for the library's long awaited expansion and renovation.

The campaign will raise funds for the enhancements, such as contemporary furnishings, equipment, and newer technology throughout the building. You can help by buying a leaf on the tree mural created by HMHS National Honor Society members. The tree has moved over to the annex.  Donations are being accepted from $5 to $250.   Leap to a Library Card!

The library now has Leap, a software product that allows us to issue library cards from mobile devices. Staff attending Back to School events issued 25 new cards to parents, teachers, and students.

Our circulation manager, Eric Zino, is also leading an outreach effort to the businesses on Kings Highway. He and staff member Andrea Rizzuto issued five new cards to business owners and full time employees this summer.

Watch for us at community events and programs, such as  Fall Festival,
where we can issue new cards or renew an expired card if you have photoidentification to show your residency in Haddonfield.

Jerry Tritt and Susan K. Reed.
As always, we thank our Haddonfield Friends of the Library for paying for LEAP! Please show your support to our award winning Friends group by visiting www.hfol.org  to join this dynamic group, currently led by co-presidents Susan Reed and Jerry Tritt.
