September brings school and the end of summer. It is also Library Card Sign up month. Make sure every child has a library card! Reading is a key factor in a successful education. The library has many formats to read: print, Large Print, audio books, and eBooks so there are many ways to read. Thanks to our Friends of the Library we have LEAP, which provides a way for us to issue library cards where you are. We will be attending all the Back to School nights. Watch for us at these events. If you have photo identification, we will issue a library card on the spot.

We will also launch a self check out computer in Sept. Watch for news and come check it out! Read about the adult and children's programs below for your learning and relaxation and to celebrate the value of your library card!

Fall schedule returns so we will be open seven days a week!

The Friends of the Library are announcing book sale plans! Read about it herein! The Friends begin to collect books on Sept. 4. They thank the First Presbyterian Church for hosting the event this year.

Children's programs continue at Borough Hall. We are very grateful to the staff and Commissioners at Borough Hall for making space for programs for the library during the renovation.

Don't forget to check out the library's subscriptions to eBooks (the 3M Cloud and  Overdrive) which also has downloadable audio books. We also have Hoopla, providing download and streaming of movies, music, TV shows, and more audio books. If you have a new or older device, stop in on Sept. 9 to get started with these subscriptions or visit the links above with lots of information to get started. All with your library card! With the renovation, please consider these subscriptions to avail yourself of thousands of eBooks and audiobooks, movies, music, and TV.

Cordially,

About Us
Snoopy says "Get Your Library Card!"

Sept. is Library Card Sign up month! Snoopy is the honorary chair of the monthly campaign. Your library card offers a wealth of information and recreational collections in the library or from where you are! The library has "cool" programs all month to encourage everyone to get a library card. If you are a Haddonfield resident, business owner, full time employee, student or teacher, you are eligible for a library card. Bring photo identification and get your card on the spot!  With LEAP, a mobile technology, we can now give you a card where you are in the community!  A special  thank you to the Friends for buying LEAP!

Join us for The Vietnam War - Forty Years Later- a lecture on Sept. 24 with Dr. Martin Novelli!

The American invasion of Vietnam finally came to an end, forty years ago, on April 30, 1975 when combined forces of North Vietnam and the National Liberation Front entered Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City) and the government of South Vietnam surrendered to the victors. American involvement in the affairs of Vietnam date from 1945 (and even some years before that) and continued after the end of the war. The commitment of over 500,000 American soldiers produced a whole series of human and economic catastrophes that still haunt American politics and culture today.  This talk will discuss the origins of America's involvement in Vietnam, the growth of a commitment that led to a major war between 1965 and 1975, and some of the consequences of the war for both America and Vietnam.

Dr. Martin Novelli has been teaching about Vietnam since 1980 at the University of the Arts, Ocean County College, and Rutgers University. He has published essays about the war in academic journals and delivered papers on the war at academic conferences in the United States and England.  To register for this free lecture co-sponsored by the Haddonfield Friends of the Library, call 856-429-1304, ext. 114. The program will be held in the Borough Hall auditorium at 7 pm at 242 Kings Highway East.
