The Library Board and staff are very glad that the long awaited renovation and expansion of the library is finally here! We expect to open our temporary location at 123 Kings Highway East on May 11. Read all about it!  Library Board members Deborah Marchand, Gene Kain, Amy Goodworth, Mary Eklund, John Piotrowski, Janet Hallahan, Cheryl Squadrito, Mayor Jeff Kasko, Rich Perry, and Sharon Parker all worked hard to get here and we thank them as well as the Borough Commissioners! Our staff has worked tirelessly to bring you the service that you have come to expect!

Children's programs will return in June at Borough Hall.

Don't forget to check out the library's subscriptions to eBooks (the 3M Cloud and  Overdrive) which also has downloadable audio books. We also have Hoopla, providing download and streaming of movies, music, TV shows, and more audio books. If you have a new or older device, stop in on May 13 to get started with these subscriptions or visit the links above with lots of information to get started. All with your library card! With the renovation, please consider these subscriptions to avail yourself of thousands of eBooks and audiobooks, movies, music, and TV.

News from the Friends of the Library!

Maureen Fitzgerald, a journalist with the Philadelphia Inquirer for the past 30 years, and  Food Editor for the past ten, was the speaker on April 29 at the Friends annual program. She discussed her work teaching students how to cook healthier meals.  Maureen started teaching a group of students to cook at a school in North Philadelphia. With the encouragement and participation of readers, this program has grown to 20 classes, with 40 volunteers
teaching at schools in Philadelphia and Camden this spring. The Friends thank Maureen for giving this stimulating program, attended by 30.

Phil Shapiro is honored by Mary Eklund.

Phil Shapiro, president of the Friends, is honored for his exemplary service

Philip Shapiro, the president of the Haddonfield Friends of the Library, was honored at the Friends annual meeting for his service. Phil has served as president for 2 terms. Mary Eklund, Treasurer of the Library Board of Trustees, presented Phil with a resolution for his service. Under Phil's leadership the Friends gave funding for the library to undertake several technology enhancements, including being the first library in NJ to offer the 3M Cloud service for eBooks. The Friends also provided funding for Hoopla, a new service that offers downloadable movies, music, television and audio books. The Friends also won the NJ Library Association's prestigious award for the best Friends group in NJ in 2013. Wonderful children's programs, expanded adult and teen programs and a 2 day book sale also occurred during Phil's tenure. Phil credited the Friends Executive Board for these many successes. We wish Phil and his family the best. Phil plans to stay on the Friends Board and continue to work on the Friends newsletter.
       Thanks, Phil!

New Digitized Haddonfield Collections are Available!

A collection of files comprised of nearly 4500 homes and properties in Haddonfield is now available in the library in digitized format. These files took up 12 file cabinets in the library. A generous gift from the Alles family provided the funding to digitize the files. The files contain information on the construction and history of the homes. Visit the reference desk to use the files in the library.
The library participated in a shared services project with several area libraries to obtain digitized copies of the Retrospect from 1906-2003. These digital files are also available for use in the library at the Reference desk. Due to copyright restrictions, the files are not available on the internet.

Our thanks to the Alles and Ainsworth families, Brett Bonfield, Library Director of the Collingswood Library, former Library Director Doug Rauschenberger,  and our own Eric Zino for working so capably to  bring the digitized local collections to the library.

Buy a Leaf to support the "We Love Our Library" Campaign

The HPL Library Board of Trustees has
initiated  the "We Love Our Library" campaign to provide fund raising for the library's long awaited expansion and renovation.

The campaign will raise funds for the enhancements, such as contemporary furnishings, equipment, and newer technology throughout the building. You can help by buying a leaf on the tree mural created by HMHS National Honor Society members. The tree has moved over to the annex.  Donations are being accepted from $5 to $250. Check with the library staff at the  circulation desk. Donations above $250 will be permanently honored in the library after completion of the renovation, anticipated to be seven months after construction begins!
