December is here! Consider shopping at the Library for your Holiday Gifts! See what is available below.

Special congratulations are due to Chris Ehrhardt for earning his Eagle Scout medal on Nov. 29. See story below!

The Haddonfield Garden Club has decorated the adult and children's departments of the library for the holidays. Stop in and see these elegant decorations - guaranteed to put you in a festive holiday mood. Our special thanks to all members of the Garden Club.

Downloadable materials are very important to you and the library launched Hoopla on Nov 10.  Librarian Kathy Metrick spearheaded this new service of downloadable music, movies, television, and audio books. Check it out below!

Don't forget to check out the library's subscriptions to eBooks (  and a vastly improved (Overdrive,) which also has downloadable audio books. The library has been using the 3M Cloud for more than one year now and use is booming. Stop in if you need any help getting started with eBooks, try the Discovery terminal to see books in the Cloud or visit the links above with lots of information to get started. All with your library card!  If you receive a mobile device for the holidays, stop in for a guided tour of using downloadable materials! Our staff is glad to help.

The library is moving forward with the long awaited renovation and addition to the building. Unfortunately, bids for construction came in too high. The project will be rebid early in the new year. The Library Board is working toward finalizing an alternate site for service in the downtown district. The site or "annex" will offer a microcosm of library programs and services. The library will have about 1/4 of its circulating collections for check out. Children's programs will continue with a small area for families. Research, computer and interlibrary loan services will be available. Arrangements have been made with area libraries to assist with loaning of collections to fit in with our community's needs.

Hopefully a construction bid will be awarded by the Borough of Haddonfield early in 2015. The library is expected to be closed for about seven months. Watch for updates and special information bulletins as plans are firmed up. The staff and Library Board will make every effort to minimize interruptions in service. We believe this inconvenience will be worth it when the renovated library reopens in 2015. Stay tuned.... read about an opportunity to buy a piece of library furniture below.

The Library Board and staff wish everyone happy and healthy holidays. We are: Pam Alles, Jordan Bilodeau, Susan Briant, Erica Braverman Coonelly, Sharon Cattell,  Kathy Donch, Lawrence Friant, Dana Giusti, Cynthia Guerra, Heather Lacy,Bill Langheim, Deena Leonetti, Kathleen Metrick, Joan Morrison, Jeanne Mugler, Lauris Olson, Ginger O'Malley,  Ed Reinking, Jeannie Reinking, Andrea Rizzuto, Linda Roberts, Amy Tan, and Eric Zino.

We also thank our volunteers Dolores Barker, Bonnie Rosenberg, Doris Klice, Jane Kenny, Cheryl Brady, Sharon Cattell and all of our Friends, who help us year round!

HOOPLA (a commotion or hullabaloo) is Here!
Hold onto your hats!

HOOPLA is available at the Haddonfield Public Library! HOOPLA
, well-deserving of its exciting name, is a digital media platform offering thousands of full-length music albums, audiobooks, films, TV shows, and instructional videos for kids, teens & adults. Haddonfield Library cardholders may borrow these titles to enjoy on PCs, tablets, and phones. Both streaming and temporary downloading of content are supported. Multiple borrowers can access the same title at the same time so no more waiting for popular titles.  Better yet, access to these titles is free of charge. Since borrowed titles are automatically returned at the end of their loan periods, HOOPLA
titles are fine free.  This media platform is perfectly suited to life on the go!  View/listen to music, audiobooks, and films across your mobile devices, and the HOOPLA
mobile app will keep your place as you go. Don't miss out on all the fun; make sure you have your library card number and associated library password ready for the HOOPLA.  New to Haddonfield and don't have a library card yet?  Have you forgotten your library password?  Then be sure to drop by the library soon to register for a card or reset your password.  Come see what the HOOPLA is all about and get some free popcorn for your movies!  Three cheers for Kathy Metrick, Eric Zino and our staff for executing Hoopla!

The Friends of the Haddonfield Public Library have generously funded HOOPLA @ HPL. To support the Friends visit  www.hfol.org

Special Notice - Help to preserve the growing library!

Your opportunity to own a piece of the historic "Haddonfield Public Library of the Past" is now available!  As the library prepares for the transformation to the "Haddonfield Public Library of the Future", we are auctioning the vintage furniture that no longer supports the new ADA compliant space plan.  Since mid November, furniture and equipment are being offered for auction via publicsurplus.com (in compliance with public law).  Additionally, patrons will be able to peruse the library to view the items; furniture for sale will be clearly tagged throughout the building. More furniture will be added to the site later when the library moves to a temporary location. Be sure to check back.  The auction will be followed up by a yard sale on the front courtyard planned for a break in winter weather. Stay tuned and please spread the word!

Celebrating  Chris Ehrhardt Becoming an Eagle Scout for his Tricentennial Project !

Chris Ehrhardt, a freshman at Lafayette College majoring in chemical engineering, was awarded his Eagle Scout medal on Nov. 29 for completion of "An Oral History of Haddonfield." Chris and three other recent graduates of Haddonfield Memorial High School  earned the prestigious Eagle Scout awards in a ceremony at the Haddonfield Methodist Church attended by family, friends,  officials and local Boy Scout Troop 3065. The other three Eagle Scout awards were given to Robert Keegan, Wyatt Lawes, and Nicholas Ruggiero.

Chris began his project in February 2013 and finished it in early 2014. He met with a committee of local residents including Maureen and Jim Eyles, Cathy Smith, Kim Custer, Charles Zimmerman of Haddonfield Memorial High School, Scout Master Greg Graham, and Library Director Susan Briant (chair and project sponsor representing the Haddonfield Public Library) to develop and oversee his project. Chris interviewed 12 of Haddonfield's leading citizens to create a video and audio history of Haddonfield at the time of the Elizabeth Haddon Tricentennial 300th anniversary. Congratulations to Chris and his family on this wonderful achievement!

Chris developed questions to ask the interviewees. Each person talks about a different aspect of life in Haddonfield as it is now and as it has been for the last half of the 20th century. Those interviewed reflect on how Haddonfield is in terms of the vision of Elizabeth Haddon. The concise format of the interviews delivers an informative, fun way for future generations to learn about Haddonfield and its unique history.

To view the 12 interviews, each about seven minutes long, go to Youtube and search under Christ Ehrhardt.  The library has  DVDs of the interviews for check out. The presentation is archived on the library's website and also with other local historical websites.  The line up of interviews is:
  • Introduction by Chris Ehrhardt
  • Butch Brees on the Hadrosaurus Project and the Haddonfield Volunteer Fire Company
  • Susan Briant on the Haddonfield Library and the future of libraries
  • Bill Brown on the 65 Club, the soccer league and the town crier
  • Former Mayor Tish Colombi on her time in Haddonfield
  • Kim Custer on Preservation and Environmental activities in Haddonfield
  • Maureen Eyles  on Haddonfield's 300th anniversary
  • John Giannotti on sculpting the Hadrosaurus
  • Joe Haro on Haddonfield architecture
  • Linda Hess on the Indian King Tavern
  • Helen Mountney on the movement of houses around Haddonfield
  • Mark Reifsnyder on the Scouting program in Haddonfield
  • William Reynolds on the Haddonfield Library and as a former mayor and local statesman
