Greetings!
Happy Summer!
There is a lot going on at the library! The Children's Dept. is brimming with activities for the Summer Reading Program. Festivities begin with a cool lawn concert for kids on June 14 with Luloo (Sara O'Brien.) Children's Librarian Dorothy Peppard has her usual fun and creative line up of summer activities. See the stories below and sign up at the Children's Dept. starting on June 10! Also, check out the wonderful decorations with the theme of Dig into Reading, created by staff member Joan Morrison! They get better every year!
If you have a tablet or eReader, stop in for a class on how to use it with the library's subscriptions to Overdrive or the 3M Cloud on June 11 at 6 pm. Get your eBooks by download with that lovely library card. Jo-Ann Pure is the instructor and our head Reference and Computer Instruction Librarian. She will also give a class on learning the basics of Apple's Macintosh on June 19 at 11 am. Call 429-1304, ext. 112 for more information or to register for these free classes.
If you want to catch up on summer reading and films, check out the ideas below to find some good reads. This includes summer reading for Haddonfield students. We are also recommending some Haddonfield books if you want to learn more about Elizabeth Haddon during this 300th anniversary of Haddonfield's settlement.
The Library Board, the governing body of the library, welcomes Mayor Jeff Kasko to the group. The Library Board is very pleased to announce the roll back of two budget closing days!
Please stop in and see the display this month showcasing books on travel. Claire Stairiker, our Circulation Manager, created this interesting display upstairs. Check it out! Let us help to plan your next trip. Our staff would love to see you this summer!
Cordially,
Susan Briant

Library Board Rolls Back Fall Budget Closing Days
The Library Board of Trustees recently adopted the library's 2013 budget. The Library Board is pleased to announce that the library will be open on Columbus Day, Oct. 14 and Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The library has been closed for budget closings on these days since 2009. The Library Board is appreciative of stable funding from the Haddonfield Borough Commission since 2011. This followed several years of steep budget cuts for all Borough departments.
President Gene Kain also expressed gratitude to an anonymous donor who gave funds specifically to assist with keeping the library open more days for the community. The Library Board is charged with oversight and governance of the public library in NJ. The Library Board's members and officers for 2013 are: Gene Kain, President; Deborah Marchand, Vice-President; Mary Eklund, Secretary; John Burmaster, Treasurer; John Piotrowski, Assistant Treasurer; other members are: Amy Goodworth; Janet Hallahan; Mayor Jeff Kasko; and Superintendent of Schools Richard Perry.
The Library Board meets on these dates at 8 am in the NJ Room of the Library:
June 25, July 23, Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 26, and Dec. 17. The public is encouraged to attend. Our thanks to all Library Board members for their volunteer dedicated service to the library and Haddonfield community.
