Greetings!

April is one of the best months for libraries. We celebrate National Library Week from April 14-20. The theme this year is  " Communities Matter @ Your Library." We are celebrating National Library Week by holding many events. The library will again host its popular Fine Free Week from April 14-20. Bring back overdue items and your fines will be waived. It doesn't matter how long the item has been overdue. The library is again partnering with the Food Bank of South Jersey to collect non-perishable food items for those in need. Bring food to the first floor of the library. Help others in need!

See the many programs and activities herein! If you haven't been here lately, please stop in to see what is new. The Friends of the Library also host their annual program at the Markeim Arts Center on April 14. Noted sculptor John Giannotti will discuss "300 Years, Plus 65 Million". See story below.

The library is launching a new eBooks system called the 3M Cloud. This will improve library lending of eBooks for our community. See story below.

April is National Poetry month! On April 24, local poet Dan Picker will discuss his new poetry book "Steep Stony Road."

Communities Matter @ Your Library: Celebrate National Library Week, April 14-20 : Library Launches 3M Cloud eBook System

The Haddonfield Public Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians and library workers.

Libraries today are more than repositories for books and other resources. Often the heart of their communities, libraries are deeply committed to the places where their patrons live, work and study. Libraries are trusted places where everyone in the community can gather to reconnect and reengage with each other to enrich and shape the community.

"Service to the community has always been the focus of the library," said Gene Kain, president of the Haddonfield Public Library Board of Trustees. "While this aspect has never changed, libraries have grown and evolved in how they provide for the needs of every member of the community."

This year the Haddonfield Public Library will launch a new eBooks system during National Library Week. The new system, called the 3M Cloud, is integrated in the library's online library catalog. The 3M Cloud is the first system that runs from the library's automated circulation system (POLARIS.) You will be able to search and use it from our catalog. It will be easy for borrowers to check out items, place requests, and so forth.

"Thanks to our Friends of the Library, we will have a Discovery Terminal" said President Kain. "This kiosk will be upstairs near to the staff. You can come in and learn how to use the Discovery Terminal to check out e-Books. We will also have two eBook readers to go with the system if you need to borrow one. Many people will have a device that is compatible with the system. Please stop in during National Library Week and check out an eBook with the 3M Cloud eBook system."

Nooks Have 27 New Titles - check out an eBook Reader

If you want to try a Nook Simple Touch eBook Reader, the library circulates five. Take out a Nook for 2 weeks and chances are, you can renew for 2 more weeks.  Editor's note: I have been taking each one home to test after they reached the one year circulation point. I also want to read some of the latest books. You can find many recent books on the Nooks. I recently read Gone Girl, The Round House, and now, the Silver Linings Playbook, by our own Matthew Quick. There are now more than 80 books to choose from. I also read Killing Kennedy and next will try Robert Caro's fourth book on LBJ. I already read Team of Rivals but it resides on the Nooks, too. Click here to see the list of titles and consider taking a Nook on a trip or just to try an eBook Reader.   A special thank you to our Friends of the Library for purchasing these eBook readers for your use and pleasure.

Our adult book group will  discuss  Gone Girl on April 15. Consider reading this title on a Nook - you can also change the size of the font easily, which is why I am using ebook readers. Contact Kathleen Metrick at kmetrick@haddonfieldlibrary.org for information on the lively and fun Turning the Page book group.
