Greetings!
Happy New Year!
The holidays are over! The library will be getting busier now that people are not occupied with December festivities. If you are wondering about going over the fiscal cliff, we have a few suggestions in this newsletter to help with your family budget. Many people already know about the best kept secret in many communities (the public library.) Check out ways to help with your cash flow below!
Phil Shapiro, President of the Haddonfield Friends of the Library, returns on Jan. 23 with another Night at the Opera. Enjoy this evening and meet new friends!
The Haddonfield Friends of the Library are conducting a townwide membership drive to get new members. Many people joined in December. Please support the Friends, who truly make a difference at the library. Friends Membership is tax deductible.
Our five Nook eBook readers that circulate for 2 weeks have 15 new best selling books. Sometimes you can get that best seller more quickly with a Nook - ask about this at the library or try one to read our library book group's monthly book selection.
We anticipate having federal tax forms later in January- stay tuned for information!
The Library Board, as led by president Gene Kain; the Friends, and all staff -Pam, Jordan, Cheryl, Erica, Sharon, Penthy, Kathy, Larry, Cynthia, Katelyn, Heather, Bill, Kathleen, Joan, Jeanne M, Lauris, Ginger, Dorothy, Jo-Ann, Ed, Jeannie R, Linda, Claire, and Susan B wish you all a happy and healthy new year!
Cordially,
Susan Briant

Using the Library is a great way to help the family budget
If you are weary of hearing about going over the financial cliff, resolve to tighten your belt a little more! The library provides many ways to improve the family budget.
- We have twelve new subscriptions to magazines, bringing our number of circulating magazine subscriptions to nearly 150. The new titles include: Afar, Ask, Cuisine at Home, Elle, Elle Decor, Garden Design, Kiki (Children's Dept.), Mental Floss, Old House Interiors, Shopsmart, US Weekly, and Yoga Journal. Take out past issues of these magazines, read them, return them, and save a little.
- DVDs and music CDs are very popular, too. Click here to see a list of our newest DVDs, CDs, Books on CD, and books!
- eBooks and downloadable audio books are also available with your library card at no charge. If you got a new device for the holidays, stop in for a guided tour of using eBooks and downloadable audio books from one of our librarians or visit here.
- Parents, grandparents, and nannies often stop in with very young children for story hours, to pick out books and DVDs, to play with puppets at the puppet theatre, do puzzles, and to give the kids time to use our early learning literacy stations. Dorothy Peppard, our wonderful Children's Librarian, has a wide range of activities for different ages of children. Visit the Children's Dept!
- Need an item we don't have? We can borrow it for you using Interlibrary Loan (library to library loaning). Click here for ILL, to request a book for our collection, or to check out catalog. Jeanne Mugler, our ILL Coordinator, is available to assist!
- Do you know a student getting ready to take SATs, ACTs, CLEPs, GREs, LSATs, GMATs, the Police, Fire, or military exams? Use our Testing and Educational Center to prepare for these computerized tests. All you need is a current library card in good standing. Parents can find a great deal of information on colleges, financial aid, and the entire process to send your student to higher ed and to better succeed in high school.
- Click here to use our library values calculator to estimate how much the library helps your family budget. (With special thanks to the Maine State Library and the NJ State Library.)

Library Closings in Storms and Bad Weather The library generally follows the lead of the Borough of Haddonfield and the Haddonfield School System in closings during inclement weather. We did close for two days (Oct. 29 and 30) during Hurricane Sandy. We came through with no flooding or other issues. No fines are levied when the library is closed for bad weather. We want the public and our staff to be safe and that is the Library Board's first priority. You can get information on weather or emergency closings from the message on our telephone system (call 429-1304) or it will be posted on our home page at www. haddonfieldlibrary.org Best wishes for a safe winter! |
Library Catalog Now Available for Mobile Devices
The library's online catalog is now easy to read on your mobile device. Click here to see it or type in Haddonfield Public Library on your mobile device. Once you click on our catalog you have the new format for far easier use on your mobile device. Another feature is new books that the library has recently added to our collections. You can place a reserve from your mobile device. A special thanks to our IT staff Jeannie Reinking, Pam Alles, and Kathleen Metrick for setting this up! |
