Ballots  Election Websites to Help You Cast Your Vote

Here are some websites to help you find information about candidates at the local, state, and national level and other ballot questions.

Vote 411 is a new tool the League of Women Voters provides to help people register to vote, and offers information on voting requirements and state deadlines.  The Vote 411  tool allows voters to build an online voter's guide, view political races, compare candidate positions side-by-side and print out "ballots" that can be used to remind the public to vote on Election Day. The tool also provides visitors with helpful voting information, candidate statements and details on current issues.

Bob Grossman and his instruments

Join us on November 7 at 7 pm for an Evening "Behind the Scenes at a Philadelphia Orchestra Concert" with Bob Grossman

Have you ever attended a beautiful concert and wondered what it takes to be on stage at the Kimmel Center performing with a famous orchestra? Besides lots of practice by the musicians, it actually takes a lot of planning and contributions from a large group of people that work behind the scenes. This presentation will share the background production and events that go into concerts. We'll hear about conductors and solo artist selections, stage hands, repertoire selection, international touring and famous concert halls, and recording events. We'll also look at the music publishing industry, learn about the craft of engraving music, and discuss current and past printing technology.

Bob Grossman has been a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra for over thirty years and is very proud to have worked closely with music directors Eugene Ormandy, Riccardo Muti, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and Christoph Eschenbach. This season begins an exciting new era with Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He has very interactive relationships with musicians, soloists, conductors, and the orchestra administration in his position as Principal Librarian. Bob will bring music examples and autographed scores to the event. He will be available to answer questions too.

The Friends of the Library are co-sponsoring this free program. Call 429-1304 to register.

Safety First
Tanner Street Entrance to Be Closed at 5 pm on Monday - Friday

The Library Board voted at a recent meeting to close the library's Tanner St. entrance at 5 pm on Monday-Friday.  Those using the library after 5 pm must enter the front door or Haddon Avenue entrances on Monday- Friday. The Library Board is doing this as a safety precaution for staff and library users. This policy will be effective beginning Nov. 5.  Thank you for your cooperation in this effort. As always, we welcome your feedback.

Bad weather

Library Closings in Storms and Bad Weather
The library generally follows the lead of the Borough of Haddonfield and the Haddonfield School System in closings during inclement weather. We did close for two days (Oct. 29 and 30) during Hurricane Sandy. We came through with no flooding or other issues.
No fines are levied when the library is closed for bad weather. We want the public and our staff to be safe and that is the Library Board's first priority. You can get information on weather or emergency closings from the message on our telephone system (call 429-1304) or it will be posted on our home page at www. haddonfieldlibrary.org   Best wishes for a safe winter!
