Spring Book Fair
March 7 to 11!

We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead better lives.

Our Book Fair is part of a reading event that brings to school a wonderful selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books kids want to read. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they'll get. Since there will never be a substitute for a parent's direct involvement in his/her child's education, please make plans to visit our Book Fair.

Before your visit, be sure to download the FREE Book Fairs App to help you find the right books for your child. For more information, visit: scholastic.com/apps/bookfairs. All booked up during Book Fair week? Visit our Online Fair, available March 7 - 18, at scholastic.com/fair

Please contact your child's teacher or room parent for class visit details.  Time to volunteer during Book Fair? Contact Tina Montesano at tinam126@gmail.com or Chelsea Wilkerson at chelseawilkerson@gmail.com.

Thanks for your support!

Groovy Thank You
A Special Thank YOU

PTA offers its biggest thanks to all the attendees, sponsors, volunteers, teachers, staff, committee chairs, and everyone else who made our Groovy Fun Fest one of the best Palmetto Elementary has ever seen. This event isn't just a fundraiser, it's also a special opportunity for our community to come together, and without the support of everyone involved, it doesn't happen. The names are too many to list here, but please know that every bit of help and support was deeply appreciated. Special thanks to Tina Montesano, this year's Chair, for the countless hours she put in to making sure it all came together.

Cleaning Out the Closets?
Save Some Items for PES!
Collections of Legos to Come -- Start Saving Now!

Sneakers too!

We are excited to embark on a fundraiser that will run through the end of the school year. In the spirit of environmental and economic sustainability, our school has partnered with the Miami Dadeland Pinecrest Rotary Club and a local sneaker recycling organization. For each pair of sneakers collected, the Rotary club will contribute funds to our school, regardless of their condition.

This is a way to raise funds for our school that doesn't require a monetary donation!

The more we collect the more we earn.  We look forward to everyone's cooperation in making this a successful fundraiser.

When dropping off the donation sneakers please tie each pair together.

All your old sneakers can be taken to the Media Center, a box has been placed there for your convenience.

"One person's trash is another person's treasure."

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

We will soon begin collecting Legos for a new project at school, so please round up those bricks you no longer need!

If you're interested in helping out with either of these projects, please contact Janet Hodur at janethdot@yahoo.com. Thanks as always for your support!
Volunteers Needed
Sign up and join the PES Volunteer Bank!

Receive email alerts throughout the year whenever we need help for an hour here or there.  Simply respond to our volunteer website to let us know if you can make it.  No job is too small.  We would love to see our parents' smiling faces around our school and so will your kids! If you aren't available to volunteer during school hours, there are opportunities for you as well!

Send your email address to pesvolunteerbank@gmail.com  to be added to the bank and start receiving requests.

Act fast.  PES is "banking" on your help.

DVD Collection
Girl Scout Service Project

Sara Alessa, Gaby Perez, Maia Wenger and Maddie Wise, all alumni from Palmetto Elementary, are working on their Girl Scouts silver award. They are collecting used DVDs which they plan to donate to Miami Children's Hospital, with DVD players, for the kids waiting for surgery and chemotherapy. They have placed a collection box by the Birthday Book club display in the Media Center.  If you have used DVDs (PG and G) that would like to donate, please place them by the box.

Thank you!

PTA Membership
We Need You!

More than ever, we need the Palmetto Elementary Community to support our PTA. The PTA is an organization dedicated to improving our children's scholastic lives through its fundraising efforts during the school year. The easiest way to contribute is by purchasing one of our membership packages - click here for details and forms needed to join. Anyone can join - including grandparents, and your contribution funds programs and activities that directly impact our children's academic experience at Palmetto Elementary.

Membership is not tied to any volunteer commitments, but rather is a way to show your support for the programs and events that the PTA provides. Don't miss out on this very significant opportunity...
