This Friday:  Jumping for a Cause
Jump Rope for Heart
Friday, February 12
9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Our school is participating in a very special community service program to raise funds for the American Heart Association. We are jumping to fight against our nation's #1 and #3 killers: cardiovascular diseases and stroke.  Our Annual Jump Rope for Heart event helps students learn about the benefits of regular physical activity and heart health, and teaches children the value of giving back to those in need. Heart disease affects every family, so help us support the American Heart Association, as they help people live longer, healthier lives! Contact Coach Tanner with questions.

To make a donation online, please go to www.heart.org/jump.

Get Involved in our biggest FUN and FUNDraiser of the Year!

We need YOU to make it a success!

Mark your calendars! Our school will have its annual Fun Fest on Saturday, February 20th from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. This year, our "Groovy" Fun Fest will have a brand new location (the P.E. field) and a lot of great new stuff and we need your help.  Please read on for all the ways you can be involved!

  • Buy your Fun Fest wristbands now for rides or games here and pick them up at Will Call at Fun Fest, or visit our ticket sales table before or after school starting Thursday, February 11th.
  • See your kid's name or your business name in lights (or on a banner) - be a Fun Fest Sponsor! Check out the the attached flyer for details and available placements
  • We are kicking off our FunFest Drink Drive! Each grade is assigned a beverage for the drink drive, see flyer. All drinks collected will be sold at Fun Fest to raise funds for the school. The class that brings in the most beverages will partake in a Surprise Classroom Activity! Don't miss out on this great opportunity. (Only 12 oz. cans/plastic bottles for donations please.)  All donations should be marked with your teacher's name and grade and brought to the back corner of the cafeteria. Look for the posted signs.  Please bring in all donations by Wednesday, February 17th in order to qualify for the Classroom prize! Please contact our Drink Drive chair Carolina Ballas with any questions at carolaballas@gmail.com.  Remember the class with the most contributions will win a special prize!  Ready. Set. Go!
  • Calling all bakers! The FunFest Bake Sale is in need of donations!  If you would like to contribute home-baked goods (made by your generous hands is preferred to store bought, if possible), all items should be individually wrapped or bagged (baggies are fine).  We tend to get a lot of brownies, so if you have a super cool recipe for cookies or cupcakes, chocolate covered pretzels, rice krispy treats or some other delectable treat, please bring them instead.  If you would like to contribute, please contact Estrella Arnold at earnold@dadeschools.net and let her know what you are bringing.  Please drop off all your delicious creations in the cafeteria by Friday afternoon (February the 19th).
  • Recycled reading for a good cause! Our Fun Fest Used Book Sale is accepting donations now!  Please take your kids'/adult/any books in good condition for resale and drop off your books at the marked box in the Media Center or at the cart in the car pool.
  • Want to help?  There are lots of opportunities! Reach out to our event chair Tina Montesanto at tinam126@gmail.com.

Blessings in a Backpack Volunteers Needed

The Blessings in a Backpack program at Palmetto Elementary provides grocery items every Friday to our students who qualify so they will have food over the weekends.  The program is very successful and it works because we have amazing volunteers. At this time, we are in need of additional volunteers. Please volunteer to help us out on Fridays from 1:20 pm - 1:45 pm distributing bags. It is not necessary to volunteer every Friday; you can sign up for the days you can work. For more information, you can contact the parent coordinator of the program, Elizabeth Wasserman, at 305-772-3301 or email wcinc@bellsouth.net or contact Mrs. Astuto at jastuto@dadeschools.net.

Thank you!

Cleaning Out the Closets?
Save Some Items for PES!
Collections of Legos and Books to Come -- Start Saving Now!

Sneakers too!

We are excited to embark on a fundraiser that will run through the end of the school year. In the spirit of environmental and economic sustainability, our school has partnered with the Miami Dadeland Pinecrest Rotary Club and a local sneaker recycling organization. For each pair of sneakers collected, the Rotary club will contribute funds to our school, regardless of their condition.

This is a way to raise funds for our school that doesn't require a monetary donation!

The more we collect the more we earn.  We look forward to everyone's cooperation in making this a successful fundraiser.

When dropping off the donation sneakers please tie each pair together.

All your old sneakers can be taken to the Media Center, a box has been placed there for your convenience.

"One person's trash is another person's treasure."

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

We will soon begin collecting Legos for a new project at school, so please round up those bricks you no longer need! Also, we will have our first Used Book Sale at Fun Fest this year (February 20), so if you're clearing your bookshelves, start bringing in those books to the collection box in the Media Center!

If you're interested in helping out with either of these projects, please contact Janet Hodur at janethdot@yahoo.com. Thanks as always for your support!

PTA Membership
We Need You!

More than ever, we need the Palmetto Elementary Community to support our PTA. The PTA is an organization dedicated to improving our children's scholastic lives through its fundraising efforts during the school year. The easiest way to contribute is by purchasing one of our membership packages - click here for details and forms needed to join. Anyone can join - including grandparents, and your contribution funds programs and activities that directly impact our children's academic experience at Palmetto Elementary.

Membership is not tied to any volunteer commitments, but rather is a way to show your support for the programs and events that the PTA provides. Don't miss out on this very significant opportunity...
