Thank You Notes for Teacher Appreciation Week

Hats Off to our Teachers and Staff!

Join the PTA in thanking all the teachers and staff who work so hard to make our school the great place it is.  You and your child are invited to leave thank-you notes in the individual staff "mailboxes" set up in the cafeteria under the lion. The boxes will be there through this Friday morning, and then handed out at the staff lunch.

Miami-Dade council PTA Recognition Awards

In gratitude for all they give to our school, PTA has nominated the following individuals and organizations for awards from the Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs.  Winners will be announced at the annual dinner on Thursday, May 21.  Thank you to all our nominees, and to all our volunteers for a wonderful year!

Fairchild Challenge Awards
Join Us Wednesday, May 27, 5-7:00 pm
at the Garden House at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens
Mrs. Raposo's Class and Mrs. Ferrer's Class will be receiving Special Merit Awards for their creative masks at the ceremony!  All Palmetto students and staff are invited to attend.

Anne Oria will be receiving a Special Merit Award for her Whimsical and Creative "Adventures of a Seed" Haiku.

Palmetto Elementary School will be recognized for 5 years of exemplary participation at this awards program.

Please be there to represent our school! This is an extremely important event for our school and needs your support!. This is Mrs. Cummins last year doing this challenge and would love to see you there to celebrate a wonderful moment!  For more information click flyer link.

Author Katherine Magnoli will visit PES Wednesday, May 27.  Presenting her heart-warming series of books about a superhero in a wheelchair that helps children who are being bullied. For more information and book order form click here.

Annual General PTA Meeting

Wednesday, May 27

Come join us for our Annual General PTA Meeting and Elections on Wednesday, May 27th at 9:00 am (or immediately following the Golden Paw Ceremony) in the Cafeteria.  You will learn about the General Obligation Bond (GOB) plans for PES, scheduled to start this summer, as well as recap of the year and plans for next year, followed by officer elections.

Other interested candidates may also run from the floor on election day. The PES PTA bylaws, Article VI - Officers and their Election, provide that only PTA members in good standing (membership dues paid) shall be eligible to hold office or serve on the Executive Board. In addition, only PES PTA members whose dues have been received by the PTA at least thirty (30) days prior to the election meeting may vote in the annual election of officers.

We will hold a special Buy One Get One Free Book Fair on Thursday, May 28, and Friday May 29.  This will be a great time to stock up on your Summer Reading!

Music USA Festival Awards

Palmetto Musicians Win Big at Music USA Festival! 

Congratulations to the following groups and students for winning awards at the USA Music Festival held in Orlando, FL this past weekend:

Concert Band:  1st Place, Excellent Rating
Jazz Combo:  1st Place, Superior Rating
Orchestra:  1st Place, Superior Rating
Chorus:  1st Place, Superior Choral Grand Champions

Individual Awards for Outstanding Soloists: 
  • Mikala Ashe,  
  • Daniel Perruc, and 
  • Ryan Sarafoglu
Outstanding performance from all our Palmetto Musicians.  Check them out next week at their last performance this school year.  Palmetto Performing Arts Department's Spring Concert will be at the Palmetto Senior High School Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 pm.  Hope to see you there!
Last Day of School & Modified Schedule Days:  June 2nd, 3rd and 4th

Last Day of School:  Thursday, June 4th

Modified Schedule:  8:20am-1:35pm for June 2nd, 3rd and 4th

Please note that the end of the school year is just 2 weeks away! 

Tuesday, June 2nd through the last day of school, Thursday, June 4th all grades will observe a modified schedule and attend school from 8:20am-1:35pm.  Please plan student pickups and drop-offs accordingly. 
Also, no uniform the last 3 days of school, and that week we will be collecting gently used, outgrown uniforms in the Media Center to help children in need at the Miami Rescue Mission get their new school year off to a great start.

Summer Reading Program

Legacy Tree and Branch of Wisdom
There is still time to submit form if haven't already! Forms are attached (tree/branch). Don't miss your opportunity to participate in the Legacy Tree, a PES tradition, or to have your Fifth grader join the Branch of Wisdom, a new PES tradition. Legacy Tree proceeds will go to improving the courtyards at the school, while Branch of Wisdom proceeds benefit the Fifth Grade Fund. Order forms for either project can be left in the PTA mailbox in the office, or given to your child's teacher in an envelope marked "Attn PTA".
