In an effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle, our lunchroom has a new bin for up-cycling lunchbox chip baggies.  The chip bag collection will reduce waste while earning money for our school through Terracycle.  We also welcome PES families to drop off their Single Serve, King or Family size SALTY snack bags.  See the following flyer:  Chip Bag Brigade Accepted WasteThe more bags we collect, like Box Tops, the more $ is raised for our school.

Junior Troop 420 is undertaking this project for their "Bronze Award" leadership adventure to bring awareness to the school/community and make a difference in the world.  By collecting and measuring the bags used throughout the year they hope to teach our children that making a small daily change in what we consume can make a big difference!

Character Parade
Character Parade (All Grades)

Thursday, October 31st

8:45-9:45 AM

PE Court

  • Costumes should be school-appropriate and non-violent and should avoid gory elements. Students will not be allowed to carry weapons as part of their costumes. Masks are permitted, but please remember that the entire school will be allowed to participate in this event, and we need to ensure our youngest students are not frightened.
  • Students in costumes deemed not appropriate will not be allowed to participate in the parade.
  • Any student who does not wish to participate may go to the Media Center.
  • Following the parade, children will return to normal school-day activities. Please send them to school with their uniform under their costume. If the uniform cannot be worn under the costume, students must bring their uniform to school and change after the parade.
  • All parents are invited to watch the children walk the parade route! As a means to stay on schedule and to secure the safety of the children, please gather on the PE Court and track area, NOT in the classrooms or the hallways.

  • National Red Ribbon Photo Contest
Win an IPad and Money for Our School!

Studies show that parents who talk to their children about the dangers of drug abuse are less at-risk. Our children's health is of utmost importance and we need your support. Palmetto Elementary will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week Oct. 28 - Nov. 1. Here is a way to get involved in taking a stand against drug abuse.

Would you like a chance to WIN 1 of 10 IPads and the opportunity to WIN $1,000 for our school? Participate in the National Red Ribbon Photo Contest. Here's how to enter:

    1. DECORATE. Work together as a FAMILY to decorate your HOME door, mailbox, or fence with a Red Ribbon and this year's theme: "A Healthy Me is Drug Free."

    2. SNAP A PHOTO & UPLOAD. Take a picture of your family in front of your Red Ribbon decoration and upload to http://redribbon.org/contest. You must be 18 years old to enter, so parents must submit the photos.

    3. GET VOTES! Ask your friends, family, colleagues and school contacts to vote for your photo on the website.

If you have the most votes in your region, you win an IPad and $1,000 for your school! For more details and a list of terms and conditions, visit http://www.redribbon.org. This contest is sponsored by the National Family Partnership.

    Box Tops
    Box Tops News!

A message from Jennifer Dunbar, your Box Tops Coordinator:

It's Box Tops submission time! I'll be sending in all the Box Tops we've collected by October 24, 2014. Our goal this year is to earn $1,900, so our

goal with this submission is $800. That works out to 8,000 individual Box Tops. Wow.  That's a lot of Box Tops!

If you have Box Tops you still need to get to me, here are some optional tips that'll make the submission process easier - they're helpful but not at all necessary:

    * Put you child's name & homeroom teacher on submissions for credit for individual & class prizes

    * Use a collection sheet - go to BTFE.com to download one or Zip Lock bag

    * Submit them to homeroom teacher or front office by October 24, 2013.

Once we send in all the Box Tops, our school will receive a check from General Mills on or around December 15th. We can use this cash to buy the things we need. This year we're planning to use the money to support ACT. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at [email protected].

    Thanks for all your help!
