We start with a model of the mind. See Garry's above. Awareness is usually dominated by your Conscious Mind. The Director directs your life and what you do all day. During your day parts of your Inner Mind come into awareness. A memory, habits, emotions, doubts, desires can pop into your awareness at any time.
Awareness is fluid. One moment it's Conscious Mind the next Inner Mind. Awareness can be 15% Inner Mind and 85% Conscious Mind or vice versa. In Hypnosis the Inner Mind takes over Awareness. The deeper you go the more your Inner Mind takes over Awareness.
What is Hypnosis? It brings your Inner Mind into Awareness where you and the Hypnotist add positives and remove negatives. Self Hypnosis brings your Inner Mind into Awareness a little bit. The Conscious Mind using willpower can then give it directions, adjustments, and release during your busy day. Self Hypnosis is advanced willpower.
Hypnosis and Self Hypnosis allow you to use the Inner Mind the part that is always working but which most people know very little about. So far we are still learning. However there still could be other areas. Telepathy is one possibility. What could others be? We will focus on using the Inner Mind for now.
