"Alzheimer's is Preventable and Reversible"
Coffe Talk w/ Dr. Mark Kalina
Thursday, November 6th
10am - 11:30am
Del Mar Community Building, 225 9th St

"Alzheimer's is Preventable and Reversible." That provocative topic will be discussed by Dr. Mark Kalina, local healthcare leader and fondly regarded former Del Mar Community
Connections board member, Nov. 6 in the Del Mar Community Building conference room. The "coffee talk" begins at 10 a.m.

The timely talk is based on a study by a UCLA neurology researcher showing that nine of 10
participants were able to reverse dementia with a multi-modality, non-pharmaceutical program. All healthy, natural interventions were used in the study program, Dr. Kalina noted.

Dr. Kalina most recently was medical director of Stem Cell Therapies at StemGenex. Just prior to joining the firm he was founder and medical director for Pando Health Groups in Solana
Beach. Previously he was a primary care physician at Scripps Clinic and a staff physician with San Diego Cancer Center. He ran his own private practice in Del Mar from 2010 to 2012.

Volunteer Spotlight
DMCC Volunteer of the Year
Pete Glaser

Pete Glaser is our Volunteer of the Year and our Volunteer Spotlight candidate this month. Pete is a WW2 veteran. Drafted into the military in 1944, shortly after he turned 18. Served as an electronic technician. Also worked on a ship of the coast of the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan.

After the war Pete went to college and then worked in the computer industry for about 45 years. Born on the East Coast, Pete grew up in Los Angeles. Pete moved to Del Mar 30 years ago where he has been active ever since.

Pete helped re-launch the Del Mar Television Foundation in 1999. He is also a volunteer with the Del Mar Library, the Del Mar Historical Society besides DMCC.

As president of the Del Mar Television Foundation, Pete got interested in DMCC at the very beginning and produced a video about the start-up of it called "The New Face of Aging."

Pete has been a volunteer for about four years. He became interested in the Brain Fitness Program and ended up running the program for the past four years. His favorite moments are when the participants say it really did them some good.

Thanks, Pete, for all you do!
