Volunteer Spotlight

Marilyn Sinnott

I've lived in the area since 1998, but have become more aware of the community organizations and politics since marrying Terry Sinnott In 2012. Prior to that I enjoyed the beach, the fair, the racetrack, the shops and restaurants, the ambience, without thinking much about what made this town tick. I'm now much more aware of the time and effort the local residents put in, to make this such a wonderful place.

I'm a former teacher who years after teaching in inner city Chicago, studied social work at San Diego State. I received a master's degree in social work and then completed the examination requirements for my LCSW license. I worked at San Luis Rey Psychiatric Hospital until it closed, several Scripps hospitals, and retired from Scripps Mercy Hospital in 2012. While at Mercy, I worked with the trauma unit and was the lead of the social work department. I've spent many years problem solving with patients and families. Over the years I have been active in PTA, teaching Sunday school, Bible Study Fellowship, and volunteering with UCP.  I do enjoy skiing, golf, gardening and travel.

Last year I was asked to work on the committee for the Gala fund raising event.  That was my first interaction with Del Mar Community Connections. I met a group of lovely people dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors in this community. The group effort was cohesive and successful. We held a very fun and profitable event. I am happy to participate again this year.

In the future, I anticipate more involvement with this organization. I look forward to working directly with the community. I believe in the mission. ~We look forward to working with you too, Marilyn. Thank you for all you do!
