Become a Ride Buddy!

The biggest hurdle to remaining independent as we age is our lack of mobility.
Our "Ride Buddies" drivers provide a valuable service for our community by getting our seniors where they need to go...whether it's to a doctor's appointment or swimming. Priceless relationships are formed with these very grateful riders. DMCC is always looking for more volunteer drivers...do you have what it takes?  Call DMCC for an application (858-792-7565) or click here to apply.

Volunteer Spotlight

 Meet Kathy Reed McCarthy

Kathy is a long time resident of Del Mar. Along with her husband, Tom, and Bernese Mountain Dog, Jake, they are active members of the commu-nity. She has spent her business career in the high technology sector. She currently works as a Sales Engineer for QuadRep Technologies. Her hobbies include travel, reading, cooking, golf, and growing award winning roses. Her garden features a collection of over 110 bushes. She competes annually at the San Diego County Fair, along with other rose competitions in the San Diego area.

Kathy learned about DMCC through another community organization, the Del Mar Rose Society. Each Thanksgiving, this group creates 30-40 Holiday rose arrangements for DMCC recipients. The Winston School children create beautiful note cards that accompany the arrangements. Its is a wonderful example of several local groups coming together to provide a lot of grace to the community. Kathy was delighted to have this worthy cause for her prize-winning roses and learned that there are events every week for DMCC that can use her cut roses. So now every DMCC event includes a bouquet or two from Kathy's garden.

Another important part of Kathy's involvement with DMCC is her participation on the organizing committee for the major DMCC fundraiser. Kathy has served on the DMCC Annual Gala Committee for the past few years. Last year she co-chaired the event.

Today, DMCC is her major focus for volunteer efforts. According to Kathy, "It is a joy to be associated with all the DMCC volunteers and staff. The type of programs, the services that are provided to our residents, the fellowship and appreciation are heart-warming. It is incredible that a town the size of Del Mar offers such in-depth support."

"You can complain because roses have thorns or you can be grateful that thorn bushes have roses". - Tom Wilson

"I'd love to have the whole place swimming in roses". - James Joyce

Thank you, Kathy, for sharing your blissful bounty with our DMCC community!
