Volunteer Spotlight
Linda Chisari

Linda Chisari found her "singing connection" with Del Mar Community Connections in 2003, when she answered an advertisement in the Sandpiper for an accompanist for a group of folks who wanted to sing. She has been hosting the monthly DMCC "Singing Together" group ever since then. Linda first learned about DMCC from several elderly friends who spoke enthusiastically about the activities they enjoyed at DMCC. She was thrilled to connect with the singing group, stating, "Imagine! People wanted to do what I liked best!" According to Linda, "Members of the group share their memories of music and lyrics learned 70 years ago, but are still fresh in their minds. We remember the circumstances where we learned these songs and the people who surrounded us very clearly. We also share information about upcoming musical events in the San Diego area."

Linda is trained as a registered nurse and a Landscape Designer. She continues her landscape design business today. She has also lectured on Water-Wise gardens and written articles for the Sandpiper and San Diego Home and Garden Magazine. In addition, Linda has been a member of the Del Mar Garden Club for over 20 years. All the while, however, she has always loved music. Linda began taking piano lessons at the age of 4. She has been part of singing groups of all sizes, from octets, to glee clubs and oratorio societies her entire life. During Linda's college years, at Mount Holyoke and Columbia, she earned pocket money by playing the piano at a local tavern (where people sang along) and she hosted her own radio program where she played call-in requests. Linda also taught piano for a dozen years when she first moved to California in 1973, with her husband and two young children.

As a volunteer with DMCC, Linda gets to enjoy her favorite pastimes, singing and playing the piano, with like-minded souls! She especially enjoys the opportunity to use the skills she has acquired over the past 70 years to bring joy to the lives of others. As much as Linda feels fortunate to have found her singing connection with DMCC, DMCC is most fortunate to have Linda giving back as a volunteer. Thank you, Linda!
