VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Lauren Krewson

Lauren Krewson grew up in Thousand Oaks, CA, and graduated from UCLA with a degree in Mass Communication.  When her husband was stationed at Camp Pendleton, they fell in love with San Diego and decided to stay.  Although they currently live in the Vista/Oceanside area, Lauren works in Del Mar at a marketing, recognition, and promotional products company called JR Resources.  She considers the Del Mar Starbucks one of her favorite haunts, and is one of a growing number of volunteers who have found their way to Del Mar Community Connections via the Starbuck's bulletin board.  Seeing a flyer indicating that DMCC was (and always is!) seeking volunteers, she was drawn to find out how she could be of assistance.  According to Lauren, "I wanted to be able to help people who have already given a lot to our community. I respect the mindset to be independent whether it is through running errands, going to choir practice or swimming lessons. I enjoy helping people immensely and wanted to be able to help in any capacity."

Now, nearly a year later, Lauren volunteers with DMCC whenever she can during her lunch break.  She often drops off and/or picks up two of our seniors who participate in regular extracurricular activities in Encinitas and Clairemont.  According to Lauren, she has fallen into a "comfortable fun routine." Lauren loves her chats with her riders, "about everything from our day to day activities to fond past memories."  Both she and one of the seniors were "surprised and tickled" when they learned they share the same birthday.  The other senior gave her access to a delicious Hungarian Pastry recipe.  The sweet treat is a bit hit when Lauren serves it to her guests.

Lauren considers herself lucky to have met these wonderful women.  She comments, "They are so full of love and joy and their zest for life is catching. I enjoy the relationships that I have made and hopefully have made a difference by helping when I can. Through these rides I have learned so much from these ladies about appreciating the small things and taking everything in stride."

When she is not working or volunteering with DMCC, Lauren spends time as a family readiness volunteer for Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, the Diamondbacks.  In addition, she is a team captain for a group that fundraises throughout the year to raise awareness for the ALS Association.  The effort culminates with a yearly walk. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys exercising and training for long distance running events, cooking for friends and family (especially Irish faire and soups), gardening, traveling, and trying new cuisines.  She is eagerly awaiting the next recipe her senior rider is willing to share!  Thank you, Lauren!  DMCC salutes you!
