January 9, 2013

Greetings!

Steve Carlin
Happy New Year!

We're kicking off the new year with lots of exciting changes at Oxbow and a birthday celebration January 21-25 (save the dates).

We're sending this newsletter out a little early because we wanted to make sure you know the main market hall will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, January 14 and 15 for maintenance. The businesses in the Annex and Kitchen Door will remain open. Future newsletters will come out twice a month on the second and fourth Monday. You can always check our online calendar to find out about special events.

See you at the Market!

HERITAGE MOVES ONLINE Heritage Logo

After five years at Oxbow Public Market, Heritage Culinary Artifacts will depart from its spaces later this month in order to focus exclusively on its burgeoning online business. Heritage proprietor Lisa Minucci's shop was always a wonderful excuse for her to travel, eat, fish, hunt and forage for beautiful pieces devoted to the pleasures of the table. She equally loved returning to her Napa Valley home with interesting booty and tales from the trails and tables. "It's been a great joy to curate my spaces and share my travel's unique finds with people who have come through my spaces," says Minucci. "I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to show my treasures at Oxbow Public Market to food and wine lovers from around the globe -- and to have found souls with whom my twisted passions reverberate."  Sign up to continue to follow Lisa's adventures online.

CHANGES AT PICA PICA   Pica Pica Logo

Pica Pica is excited to announce the consolidation of its bar into the original footprint at Oxbow, along with a new menu! Since Pica Pica Bar's opening in September 2009, they have hosted many different events that will always be remembered with great joy -- from the traditional Venezuelan Parranda each December, to the regular Brewer's Nights, to the Friday live salsa and Latin nights. In 2013, Pica Pica is going back to its original footprint at the kitchen -- but will continue to offer the "best of the bar" -- passion fruit sangrias, fruit frescas, draft beers and its locally produced house wine, Picaro Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition, Pica PIca has a new menu, with the favorites you told them you loved, plus some new additions, like spicy chicken catira arepas and grilled steak and tostones salads. "We look forward to continuing to serve the community of Napa with our delicious, unique and always 100 percent gluten free menu," says Pica Pica Owner Adriana Lopez Vermut.

CA' MOMI EXPANDS Ca' Momi logo

Ca' Momi, Oxbow's authentic Neapolitan pizzeria and wine bar is expanding into the adjacent space to offer more options to the public. Ristorante Ca' Momi, known for offering authentic certified Vera Pizza Napolitana, traditional Italian pastries, and a menu filled with traditional Italian cuisine such as the Baccal alla Veneziana, Lasagne alla Bolognese, and Carpaccio alla Cipriani is open for full-service lunch and dinner starting at 11 a.m. "This setting has been really successful for us and has allowed us to truly showcase the best of traditional Italy," says Dario De Conti, owner of Ca' Momi, "This expansion allows us to bring even more traditional Italian experiences to Oxbow Public Market." The new Enoteca, an Italian wine bar with small bites of delicious foods, will open at 7:30 a.m., so guests can start their day in true Italian style with a cappuccino and a freshly baked pastry. Pizzas and pastries will continue to be available in both the Ristorante and 'to go' at the kiosk location!

Oysters are naturally low in fat, high in protein and are a good source of the heart-healthy, essential nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, potassium, magnesium and vitamin E. And oysters deliver more zinc (think natural immune boosters) than any other food. Read More here.

CHEESE AND WINE SPECIALS Portalet

Oxbow Cheese & Wine Merchant is offering the

Portalet, a cow's milk cheese from Pyrenees, France and the 2009 Grifalco della Lucania Aglianico del Vulture from Basilicata, Italy its Friends of Oxbow specials this week at 15% off. Portalet is a semi-hard cheese with a creamy texture. It is a mild cheese on the attack that is not overly tangy with a soft texture that is Grifalco easy to cut and it nearly melts in your mouth. The creamy richness of the cheese helps to tame the ample tannins of this Italian red with its Old World flavors. This substantial red wine is from Basilicata on the volcanic slopes of southern Italy. Aglianico is the best known 'big red' grape in southern Italy. This gutsy, age-worthy wine has plenty of ripe fruit with plum and boysenberry flavors with cedar notes that are all wrapped in firm tannins and ample acidity. This is a quintessentially Italian wine with earthy, Old World flavors.
