Sewage on Track

Seven people have been appointed to the Core Area Wastewater Project Board: Jane Bird (Chair), Jim Burke, Brenda Eaton, Don Fairbairn, Dave Howe, Robert Lapham, and Colin Smith.

This Project Board has the mandate to oversee the development of sewage treatment plan for the Capital region.

"The Project Board, recommended by the Province and appointed by the CRD, is comprised of highly competent individuals with extensive, relevant experience," said Chamber CEO Catherine Holt. "This is a game-changer for the project. The Project Board appears to have all the requirements for success. We look forward to their recommended plans and to real progress."

First Impressions Count

GT Hiring Solutions finds jobs for women, and men, and now they also help to dress them to look the part. First impressions count and many of GT Hiring Solution's clients needed help in putting their best foot forward. This is where the expertise and generosity of local men's fashion retailer Dale Olsen came in.

Olsen and his customers stepped up by digging into their closets to donate suits, shoes, and ties. Overwhelmed with the volume of the clothing drive, one more community leader stepped in and team members from Telus helped sort and iron the clothes as part of their Telus Days of Giving.

Ninety men will be clothed and ready to nail their job interviews.

BC Chambers Unite on Housing

For several years, the BC Chamber's province-wide network has been developing solutions to the housing affordability issue, which it views as a growing problem to the province.

At the recent BC Chamber Conference, BC's chambers and board of trade passed a series of new policies to tackle BC's housing affordability challenges.
  1. Real Estate, Citizenship and Residency Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting, calls for the BC government to requisition a full provincial study to collect and analyze citizenship and residency data on all real estate in BC - and then publish the results.
  2. Addressing the Housing Crunch Through Increasing Supply, calls on the BC government to identify and remove administrative barriers at all levels of government that slow increased density, and then to identify and implement incentives to encourage the private sector to increase housing supply through density as well as alternative and more efficient housing solutions.
  3. Affordable Rental Housing and a Fluid Labour Market, calls on the BC and federal governments to work together to develop tax and other incentives to encourage purpose-built market rental housing for low- to mid-range incomes.

"Housing affordability is a big issue for businesses as it affects our
ability to attract and retain the workforce we need today - and tomorrow," said Chamber CEO Catherine Holt. "Having BC Chamber's network united on housing affordability provides a strong and amplified message to be heard both at Legislature and Parliament."

Exporting with Ease
Victoria businesses are increasingly expanding their market beyond the scope of North America. Although lucrative, it can bring its own degree of complexity.
The Chamber provides Certificates of Origin to local businesses for the purpose of facilitating trade around the world.

A Certificate of Origin is a document attesting that goods exported in a shipment have been wholly obtained, produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country. You'll often also see a request for a Certificate of Origin seal if travelling to U.A.E. as a consultant.

Since 1923, The Chamber, and chambers internationally, have been empowered with the authority to issue Certificates of Origin as way to simplify custom formalities & expedite international trade activities.

Contact us before you ship or travel for your Certificate of Origin.
